Your understanding would be wrong... His only "banning" is in the sense that he wouldn't be welcomed at the Garden like other Knick greats; free entry, recognition, whatever. If he wanted to get into the Garden he would have to pay like you and I would. He said as much on Boomer and Carton a couple years ago, when he was talking about how he had been treated by Dolan and his henchmen. They haven't even shown him love for the 70th anniversary, which is sad because there are few Knicks who would get a larger ovation than Oak if he was presented to the fans.
