I don't know. They probably think Jesus is theirs to do with as they please but Muhammad (pbuh) belongs to "those" people. Also it's not even what is depicted, respectful or not. Muslims just do not portray prophets visually, even in movies about the prophet done and acted by Muslims, there is never someone "acting" the prophet. On a personal level I just took it to be a prevention of idolising or ending up worshiping any prophet, same way putting up pictures of people and especially the deceased is also not allowed (some people do acts of worship as a sign of respect to pictures or grave sites). There are a whole range of reasons why it's not a good thing and why we don't do it as a monotheistic religion. But to take something that you know is a sensitive topic and cause ridicule for no reason other than to cause offense because you can is just sad, irresponsible and immature. It offends me but I sure as hell wouldn't kill anyone for causing that offence but there's no two ways about it, that is the only reason it was printed. To offend me and those like me because today it's topical to do so. Yesterday Hitler wrote a book where he called Jews rats, today #killallmuslims can be trending.

As a Muslim though someone posting a picture of Jesus (Issa, pbuh), Buddha or Krishna taking a shyt does not amuse me anymore than a picture of Muhammad (pbuh) would.

The cop who died because of the cartoonists yeah, but I really could give two shyts about them to be honest. You have freedom of speech, not freedom of consequence. I can run up to a child and scream obscenities in its face, if their father punches me in the face, I just gotta eat that because I instigated it. When you start shyt, you have no control over how someone reacts to it that's just the way it is. In an ideal world people would not be ready to murk you over a drawing, but we live in an imperfect world and unfortunately for the cartoonists that's just what some people are willing to do. What the cartoonists did was just unnecessary provocation, and like in the real world if you start it you can't control how it ends. Like somebody said before, today is just a time where the majority of the world feels comfortable shytting on Islam. Some guy at Charlie Hebdo made a cartoon about jews back in 09 and was promptly fired, but when you shyt on Muslim people you're protecting freedom of speech.
