@murksiderock

we moving up!! :blessed:

will be a top 10 city and top 10 largest by 2035:ohlawd:

i think we already top 5 in black population in the US:whew:

Charlotte's approaching Top 10 in population, but its not really close to being an all-around Top 10 city. We know more goes into shyt like that than just population...

The consensus Top 12 US cities are generally looked upon as:

1 New York
2 Los Angeles
3 Chicago
4 Washington
5 San Francisco
6 Boston
7 Houston
8 Atlanta
9 Miami
10 Philadelphia
11 Dallas
12 Seattle

Charlotte isn't close to threatening to be a Top 10-12 city, all of those cities have substantial advantages over Charlotte in too many categories...

This is just like me saying, now that Raleigh has the 39th-largest population, it means something. It doesn't really...

But all things fair, I do think Charlotte is a Top 20 US city:

13 Phoenix
14 Detroit
15 Minneapolis
16 San Diego
17 Denver
18 CHARLOTTE
19 Baltimore
20 Austin

I've been in Denver since April 12, my second time out here. Although I'd put Charlotte after Denver, there's a healthy gap between the two; Denver is further along in its "major city" development. But again being fair, Charlotte is major enough and a Top 20 city...

Likewise, I think Raleigh has been a Top 40 city for some time, before it achieved its new 39th-largest population:

21 St Louis
22 Portland
23 Las Vegas
24 Tampa
25 Orlando
26 Nashville
27 Pittsburgh
28 Cleveland
29 Cincinnati
30 San Jose
31 Oakland
32 Indianapolis
33 Kansas City
34 Sacramento
35 San Antonio
36 Salt Lake
37 Columbus
38 Milwaukee
39 RALEIGH
40 Jacksonville

If Charlotte and Raleigh continue growing the way they have been, that means both cities will continue to add the requisite "big city" amenities that come with growing larger. The challenge both cities face is that so many other places were bigger, more developed cities earlier in time, so both NC cities are playing catch up...

But its conceivable that within a decade, Charlotte could reach Top 15 status, and Raleigh Top 35 status. Both cities are significantly stronger places than they were 10, 20, 30+ years ago, and both continue to develop their national profile and brand/images...

Also, the winningest major league team in Carolina is going back to the Eastern Conference Finals, so give a shout out to your Raleigh Hurricanes, nigha 🤣 🤣 we some winners here!

🤣 I hear you, that's a pretty substantial gap so if yall catching Dallas that means Charlotte doing alota work and nobody else is doing shyt 🤣

That's like me saying Raleigh is catching Vegas in 10 years 🤣

237 people roughly move to Charlotte a day…..

that’s roughly 75K a year and it’s steadily increasing

Charlotte had 874,579 people in the 2020 Decennial Census. It had 943,476 as of last July...

In that span of time that's ~44.4 people moving to Charlotte each day, ~17.2k moving to Charlotte each year...

It ain't even been 75k people to move to Charlotte from 2020 to 2024 fam 😂 the count stands at 68,897 in that span of time...

The real measure of population is metropolitan area. The city population doesn't hold a lot of weight because every state classifies cities differently and built them differently. All Virginia cities are independent cities, so are Baltimore and St Louis...

Charlotte has the 21st largest MSA; 21st largest GDP; 21st largest DMA (media market); 19th largest CSA; and 14th largest city population. Every metric Charlotte is between 19th and 21st ranked except for city population---->nobody thinks Charlotte is a bigger city than Atlanta or Miami, even though Charlotte has more mf's in the city limits...

For comparison, Raleigh has the #41 MSA; #40 GDP; #39 city population; #31 CSA; and #22 DMA. Every metric has Raleigh between the 39th and 41st city, except DMA...

Both these things align with, Charlotte being a Top 20 city as is, and Raleigh a Top 40 city as is. But Charlotte has quite a ways to go to truly become a Top 15 city, let alone a Top 10 city; it'll probably never be a Top 10 city and most likely not a Top 15 city, either...

This is just like saying, Raleigh is gonna become a Top 20 city. Chances of that happening are very slim, but for both cities, they are more known and popular than ever before. Met a white chick out here who is from here, but lived a decade in Charlotte, and before that 4 years in Philly, before moving back here to Denver (where she's from)...

There's a seismic gap between Charlotte and Philly, city to city, and like i said there's a pretty notable gap between what Denver is, compared to Charlotte. Charlotte adding people like crazy is only small part of what it needs to do to truly round into a Top 10 or 15 city. Its not that close, bro...

@Bryan Danielson

I'm not originally from the East Coast ir the South, but I've lived in alot of places and I travel alot, so I tend to have conversations like this in my real life. Because I travel alot domestically, I meet a ton of other people who do the same...

In the same sense, I think not being from the East Coast or the South, gives me a broader perspective of place, than people who haven't lived or traveled much outside their home region...

I personally rank Charlotte above Baltimore and Austin, and I'd say 'most' people do as well, but there is some push back to that----->especially when it comes to Baltimore. There are a LOT of people who favor Baltimore over Charlotte....

I've never been to Austin, but I've been to Baltimore and few times. Can't nobody convince me that Baltimore is a stronger city than Charlotte, not in 2025. Before 2015, sure, but I think Charlotte passed Baltimore in the late 10s. I stand on that, but there are a lot of people who disagree with me and love Baltimore...

I'm saying that to say, while I have Charlotte over Baltimore, spending so much time in cities I rank ahead of Charlotte, truly highlight what Charlotte lacks. Denver is right ahead of Charlotte for me, and San Diego right in front of Denver----->but Charlotte is quite a ways away from being even an equal to that SD/Denver level...

I've grown to love Raleigh. Its a smaller city than Charlotte, so all the cities in Raleigh's weight class are also smaller than Charlotte, and as such Raleigh has less ground to cover between it and those cities. Raleigh is already fairly close to all the cities between my #38 (Milwaukee) and #26 (Nashville). Raleigh could conceivably leap most or all of those cities and become a fringe-Top 25 city, in a quicker amount of time than it takes for Charlotte to catch Denver and San Diego...

Do I expect that to happen? Not really, because everybody else's city isn't just sitting idle while Raleigh booms, and same for Charlotte. But Raleigh is closer to being a Top 25 city, than Charlotte is to being a Top 15 city...

I'll repeat this though, both cities are a good distance away, and as it is i think its dope that NC has two cities continuing to expand their national reputations. Charlotte is a legit Top 20 city, Raleigh is a legit Top 40 city. When people call these places "boring" and shyt like that, I vehemently disagree. If you really out in either city there's plenty going on...

Raleigh and Charlotte are the Carolina version of Dallas and Houston...

They are two different vibes. CLT is a bit more blue collar, while RDC leans on the fact that there are three major universities in that metro. Take your pick. I'm a Raleigh guy myself
