All seems very nice,forward thinking and progressive doesn't it?.... problem is, countries like the US and also the UK, have different social problems .cultures etc etc, a good example was the attempt to bring in european style licencing laws for pubs and night clubs into the UK, complete and costly disaster. Because basically British people, see getting as drunk as possible, fighting, and fukking in the street, as completely acceptable. We give the russians a run for their money when it comes to this shyt.
Countries like the US and the UK, seem to give no shyt about their social problems,or people with problems , let them fester, because to solve them would involve spending money.We also believe in people sinking or swimming, and that a persons problems are their own, they are not shared. We would rather spend money , on weaponry for instance. Without changing our national cultures, the norwegian prison system just would not work.
But I would say this, I don't think norway dealt with the psycho anders Breivik properly, he either should have been incarcerated for natural life, in a much harsher prison, if needs be they should built a section of a prison especially for him, or they should have given him the death penalty. Because it's the message that is sent out to other extremists, here,he is trying to set up political movements from his prison cell, he should not be communicating with anyone.
But I do find US prisons all a bit homoerotic, seems to me prison rape,is seen as part of the punishment, and really the warehousing that goes on in both the US and now the UK, of prisoners is wrong. In fact the nazi concentration camp system pre ww2, is actually more progressive and focused on changing behaviours of deviant people and short sentences , rather than just locking people up for long periods of time.
