When you guys cite some of these stats you should really put them into perspective.
For instance in Chicago, about 80% of the victims of homicide are black. This from a group that comprises of only around 32% (864,000) of the population.
So let's say last year, 364 or so victims of homicide were black. That would give the black population in Chicago a homicide rate of 42 per 100,000 of the population. That puts it on par with cities like Detroit, St. Louis and New Orleans.
The other problem is that the violent crime occurs mainly in two parts of the city - the South side and the West side. The fact that these homicides are occurring in sprawled out suburbs is pretty crazy.
Aside from that, shootings in Chicago have actually gone up. What is actually going down is marksmanship.
In 2014, 2619 people were shot in Chicago. Yes, 2619 (perhaps a few people were shot more than once during the year). So far this year, 177 people have been shot. (http://heyjackass.com/). For some of you, this is normal, but in a civilized society, 2500+ getting shot every year is absurd. That sounds like stats from a militarized zone.
What people fail to acknowledge is the work these doctors are doing in saving the lives of some of these victims. If these little kids running around killing people had better marksmanship, then there would be a lot more casualties. Even then, when you break down the stats, you'll see that a lot of these homicide victims were shot in the head. These gangbangers aren't shooting to intimidate..they are shooting to kill. Majority of these homicides are gang related, and it is just unfortunate that innocent people get caught in the crossfire.

The 80s/early 90s really set us back as a people. I was born in 1988 so I'll never know how bad it was but, my brother was born in 1978, so he came up in the 80s through the 90s, and he said it was TOO EASY to sell drugs. You gonna go work at McDonalds for $5 an hour or make $500 a day...at 15 years old. But of course, all that money had people getting murdered left and right
