Investing in communities actually makes a big deal if the goal to try to mitigate the circumstances that lead to violent crime.
If you strengthen education, give kids and teens safe spaces to be able to live, improve the green spaces in your area and actually make good on this idea that it's easier to get jobs, you can see improvements, but politicians especially the higher up you go think it's a waste of time because they have no interest in fixing these problems. Trump couldn't wait a week to take a victory lap about protecting the national mall because he has no real interest in protecting DC. Telling people that you're reducing crime is easier than actually doing it.
Basic infrastructure is already a given. I’m not saying you should not do these things. However, these things are not major deterrents too existing crime. Theres a crisis TODAY, not something coming down the road.
