im not from Chicago tho i'd do check for Chicago music (Common, Ye, and Lupe are in my top 10 and No ID is a Top 5 producer)

even in NYC you have different styles within the city

Yeah I noticed that rappers from Harlem always tended to be flashy (puffy, mase, Dip set, A$ap) while Queens nikkas are more grimey/dark (mobb deep, 50, nas etc)

Brooklyn seems like a mix between the two though

IMO: Harlem: flashy, Brooklyn: most lyrical, Queens: flow, Staten Island: Wutang lol, Bronx: grimy, most Latino MCs were from the Bronx, Suburbs (Westchester and NJ) chip on the shoulder attitude

Detroit has pioneered alot of production.
