I also learned recently from ModernWarNegro that there are multiple companies you can partner with through YouTube that pay differently, which I think is pretty cool. He does a Podcast with 2 of his boys who I believe are also partnered but their channels are nowhere near the size of his. He said that during the one when they were discussing the changes coming to YouTube earlier this year

That company that you're referring to is what I mentioned earlier as a MCN. You don't have to be partnered with a MCN, you can partner with youtube directly. The difference is Youtube doesn't have many licenses therefore there's a limit to what type of content you can monetize. Whereas MCN's do have licenses for example video games. You pretty much have to partner with a MCN in order to monetize gaming content. Although MCN's take a % of your ad revenue it can be beneficial to partner with them other than their licensing benefits. MCN's work to improve the monetization of your content, basically they try and get ads that will be more suitable for the content you're creating.
