Any other country I would believe it. But China is world renowned for scamming, fudging numbers, bootlegging, and projecting an image, often a false one, they want the world to see. It's like every other day they bragging about some new technology but don't seem to ever have anything but news stories to show for it. Where's China's LG or Samsung? Their Sharp, Toshiba, or Hitachi? They supposedly making real life Star Trek Phasers but their main exports still include Burger King kids meal toys?
Cool stuff. One of the only good things about a cold war are these little games of "one-ups-manship" .
Now the US navy needs to go back to the shop and counter it. They cracked fusion a few months ago, so forced fields should be light work

Looks like that nuclear battery stuff is legit.
It's funny how "back to the old days" we want it, but at the same time want to stay ahead in technology.
In reality, staying ahead in technology means working with immigrants from other countries. You really can't rely on 350 million Americans (many NOT in STEM) to push tech forward vs 8 billion people. The raw numbers and brain power will surpass you at some point, especially if you want to keep closing people off and work with limited resources.
Way too much national pride when technology should be about trying to push every singly person on this planet forward.
