China Records Slowest Population Growth In Decades

China's population grew at its slowest pace in decades, according to government data released on Tuesday. The average annual growth rate was 0.53% over the past 10 years, down from a rate of 0.57% between 2000 and 2010 -- bringing the population to 1.41 billion. The results add pressure on Beijing to boost measures for couples to have more babies and avert a population decline. The results were announced in a once-a-decade census, which was originally expected to be released in April. The census was conducted in late 2020 where some seven million census takers had gone door-to-door to collect information from Chinese households. Given the sheer number of people surveyed, it is considered the most comprehensive resource on China's population, which is important for future planning.

Ning Jizhe, head of the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that 12 million babies were born last year -- a significant decrease from the 18 million newborns in 2016. However he added that it was "still a considerable number." [...] China's working-age population -- which it defines as people aged between 16 and 59 -- has also declined by 40 million as compared to the last census in 2010. But chief methodologist Zeng Yuping said that the total size "remains big" with 880 million. "We still have an abundant labour force," he said. However, [principal economist from The Economist Intelligence Unit, Ms Yue Su] warned that going forward, continued drops in the labour force "will place a cap on China's potential economic growth." She added: "The demographic dividend that propelled the country's economic rise over recent decades is set to dissipate quickly."

I know their "One Baby" a family went to "Two Babies" for family, but like if you have a 3rd it either "Doesn't Exist" (Can't get benefits/ID/Etc) or you have to pay a state fine. Obviously this is all about maintaining political power, but now the long-term effects are hitting and the only way out is long-term solutions

I don't think they have...I think they're literally still dealing with it as we speak
Japan is continually shooting itself in the foot w 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Theyve have had a stagnant economy for years, been begging for some inflation and GDP growth. They ignored the labor shortage, remained closed borders.

Had a worker shortage. Pushed women into the work place. Women literally do all the child raising. Japanese men barely know how to change a diaper or even drive their kids to pre school. Japanese women start working, realize they dont want to work AND be mothers, stop getting married and or wanting to have kids.

That exacerbates the future worker shortage. Not enough young people to replace the people who are aging out of the work force. Wont accept immigrants.

GDP is stagnant, create huge public spending to initiate the economy, drop interest rates, but institute vat taxes that nullify monetary policy. Cant achieve any inflation and are still battling deflation. (BTW for all the people that worry about US deficits - look at Japan. Their deficit is like 1000x their GDP and no inflation)

They finally just started accepting an immigrant worker program. But it's just for labor. Their families arent allowed to come, so the birth rate issue isnt gonna get fixed.

BTW - that's America's future. We've dropped below replacement level for birth rate and we're becoming more isolationist w immigration and trade.

The population decline in some East Asian nations completely contrasts to the population boom in much of Africa

Our grandchildren are going to live in a completely different world

China and Korea have approached a middle market economy. They can produce shyt as cheaply as they have been for the past several decades. They're turning to Africa and Vietnam as low wage production hubs, like we have used China for. The problem for African countries is theyre getting steam rolled by the chineese. While China was able to grow it's wealth as a producer, it's going to extract that wealth from Africa.

It also creates an issue for the USA because the less dependent China is on US dollars, the more antagonistic they will be. If the US was smart (we're not) they'd invest heavily in Africa, without the strings china is attaching. That of course ignores the entirety of US imperialism where we always attach strings that destabilizes those countries.

:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol: now they even trying to kill the uiyghurs babies knowing full and well there's a population crash coming...
Because the Uiyghurs are not Han. The chinese are nationalistic AF. They'll import slave labor like Arabian Gulf countries before they integrate the uiyghurs into their society.
