Not trying to come off :mjpls:but if you had to pick between the Chinese investing in Haiti, or leaving Haiti to it's own devices so they can determine their own destiny in the modern world, what scenario would fair better for Haitians?

This question isn't specifically directed at you either, and please anyone on here who reads this enlighten me if I'm ignorant on the subject but from everything I can tell Haiti hasn't exactly been raising the bar for advancement and innovation. Does China owe Haiti a handout? Or is mutually beneficial for both parties for China to make an "investment" into a country that is incapable of investing within itself?

Either way, they're fukked.
Has been, and always will be.

If I had to answer your question, I would say China "investing" in them would be best. Give them a chance to get fukk outta there. Haiti suffers too many natural disasters, poor af, and their government is a joke. Get the fukk outta there!

It's all good until there's requirement that they have to speak Chinese to see a portion of the benefits china's money will bring
Or when Haitians are assisting in the building of shelters that will be used to house Chinese and not Haitians.

Above the fray.
I'm of Haitian background. This eventually was going to happen.
Just like the countries in Africa that have been run into the ground by it's leaders, Haiti is a prime target for China.

Sometimes others can see value in things that you don't. Certain that Chinese have identified and located the natural resources that are still in Haiti and going to build infrastructure to extract them. Also, as the article pointed out...being in Haiti opens up new markets for Chinese goods to be sold directly.

"1804" sounds great......defeating the people who enslaved you is great, but to be in the condition that Haiti is in over 200 years after independence is SHAMEFUL.

Forward thinking Haitian Americans and others in the diaspora can take advantage of what's happening here and make some money.

I'm uncomfortable with this kind of arrangement. In order for black people to elevate economically we need to help ourselves. Receiving help from outsiders means we're beholden to them. They basically 'own' us unless we give something back. Haiti is rich in natural resources so we may have to give that up. Hilary Clinton's brother has mining permits to some parts of Haiti so there will be conflict there. You also have CIA operatives like Sean Penn living there deeply involved in human trafficking little Haitian kids. This has no relevance to the topic at hand but just felt like bringing it up.

Haitian leadership is corrupt as fukk. They will probably take some of that money and store them in their Swiss bank accounts. Like that other poster said: It would be much better if all Haitian Americans put their money together and invested in Haiti themselves.
