Haiti is a unique situation where the people suffer from corruption AND incompetence of the leadership.
Either one is bad enough, but when you get both.......it's terrible.

I mean being brutally honest, with this deal at least many Haitians will finally be able to live in decent conditions

the downside is unless the govt strike a really really good deal which I doubt its going to be Shanghai in the sun with just a Haitian puppet government

As long as it benefits the people. I saw quite a few Asians when I was in Haiti. There is so much work that needs to be done. I hope it's mutually beneficial.

The new president has good intentions based on what I have heard so far. My parents are moving back soon and I will fly way more often if there is such drastic improvement. I want the people to be working on these projects learning these skills.

Its a country with lots of potential but you can tell that It suffers from "brain drain".

Nothing should be free. Haitians dont need charity. Hopefully this 30 billion will be jobs and unless they are going to import thousands of Chinese to do the work (which they cant) some fortunate Haitians can learn the technical skills to run these operations.
that's exactly what they always do. They import almost 90% of the labor

All things considered, the investment will have a positive net effect on the country. Haiti will move into the 20th century...and eventually into the 21st century

Haitian government could negotiate that a fixed number of laborers have to be local and/or that the Chinese train locals to do some of the work. The deal doesn't have to be exploitative in nature.

I think it comes down the type of leadership that Haiti has. Good leadership is going to secure a good deal (given the circumstances).

Reading through thread and like expected A LOT of dumbass shyt from people who don't understand geopolitics,, investments or how the world works. Of course its easier to scream, "China is colonizing Haiti!" When in fact this is something many Haitians I know dreamed of who want Haiti to become self-sufficient.

China? I'm more scared of the dumbass Haitian elite who may make this worse than what happened to Jamaica. Infrastructure is a MUST for Haiti repeat a MUST and anyone who is against this is a moron. I long been waiting for Haiti to get the China deal that Africa has been getting. Some may disagree but look at North Sudan, Angola, Ethiopia and Tanzania. Chinese infrastructure has been setting off like wildfire in those countries[and I seen it first hand].

The bad thing is Haiti can be flooded with Chinese foreigners who will get an unfair advantage over the poor majority, the Chinese may hire only Chinese workers among other things. But thats if the Haitian government ALLOWS THAT!

The Jamaican govt were either incredibly stupid ..... or as I suspect brown envelopes and suitcases of money changed hands ......

They are literally fukking their countrymen over for short term gains ..... Jamaica is going out of its way to establish some type of apartheid....
No one wants to admit it but sadly there is a color caste-like system in Jamaica.

Yeah the politicians have to have Haiti in mind and can't be greased by pocketing the money, then looking the other way when the CHinese have their, then start coming in buying up shyt. But how many stories have we heard of politicians doing just that.....

The land is worth more than the money that the chinese can give. Land and Property are always more important than material possessions......

And that's exactly what people should be afraid of.....The Haitian politicians can't sell the country up the river just to pocket a few millions. But corrupt politicians is a way of life....

Chinese never slaughtered millions of Africans like the Europeans

Chinese never assassinated African leaders or sponsored unrest because they didnt approve of socialist governments like the USA

Chinese never used the IMF and world bank as an instrument to devalue many African economies

Chinese dont go with a promise of a loan with one hand but then try and tell you how you must run your country if you want the loan

Chinese are only in it for themselves full stop, so fukk em, but they at least arent devils like the CACS

People don't know how the Chinese walk. Anyone who says the Chinese are like the West are idiots. I don't like the Chinese because they are cheap as fukk, they put money over EVERYTHING[they will sell their own mothers for money], what they are doing in Tibet is questionable and they don't seem ti care for the environment.

However, when it comes to BLACK NATIONS I most definitely want the Chinese as my business partner. Like someone in that petrodollar thread in the HL said the Chinese are conquering by buying nations.
