Even though I like Chino XL, I agree with the idea that him as a 'recording artist' is probably not the best use of his talent. I've talked about this before with friends of mine, rappers like Chino, Cannabis, Ras Kass and a few others would be better served as facilitators, there's just not many lanes in the industry for that to be a viable career option. Like the old saying "those who can, do; those who can't teach/coach". If there were a show like American Idol or X Factor geared towards rappers, these guys would be good technical coaches or advisers or consultants. Or if there was another show like the old Lyricist Lounge which was like a Hip Hop version of SNL. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are hit makers, but any good artist is gonna know how much of whatever to take from them in a teaching type setting. Part of being a dope MC is being relevant, being credible and being creative. Chino is creative, but he's not relevant, which is why his music doesn't have a shelf life, and he's not credible, because most of what he spits about is just hyperbole.
Any young artist could benefit from learning from him the technical aspects of putting words together, the literary phrasing and correct usage of parts of speech and things like that, manipulating spoken word. Thing is Chino takes it too far and forgets that he's rapping...over a beat...to a song...for the listeners enjoyment, lol
