Obama came up advocating for single payer before he ran, didn't even fight for a public option and shut out single payer activists when it came time to draft legislation. He sucks
Obama's Approach: Private and Public Group Insurance with Consumer Protections and Income-Based Subsidies. Senator Obama has proposed a plan for universal coverage that would build on the current system of mixed private and public group insurance. Some of its features are similar to the universal coverage law now being implemented in Massachusetts. All employers, other than small businesses, would be required to offer health insurance to their employees or contribute to the cost. Eligibility for Medicaid and SCHIP would be expanded. Small businesses, self-employed individuals, and people who do not have coverage through their employers, Medicaid, or SCHIP would be able to purchase a plan through a new insurance market called the National Health Insurance Exchange. Through this exchange, people could choose a private plan or a new public plan similar to that offered to federal employees and members of Congress. All insurance carriers would be required to offer plans to all applicants and could not charge premiums based on health status. Small businesses would be eligible for tax credits to offset their premium costs and individuals would be eligible for income-based premium subsidies. Obama has not yet defined the size of eligible small businesses and those not subject to the requirement to offer coverage.
"Came up" as in he came up on single payer a few years before he ran
He ran on the ACA. He ran on a system with a public option. If Joe Lieberman didn't tank it we'd have a public option.

At first there were 5 dem holdouts and lieberman. But they were basically stuck at 59 votes and Lieberman threatened to filibuster or vote against any proposals that included more government expansion in health care."Came up" as in he came up on single payer a few years before he ran
and yes Lieberman is a garbage human and liked to ratfukk but there wasn't much fight for it from team Obama let's be honest. He was in full compromise mode from the beginning, talking about the possibility of it instead of publicly battling Lieberman about it. I disagree with the approach
I'm trying to remember but I think a few other conservative dems on the Health committee opposed the inclusion of the public option as well but my memory is shot about this![]()
Obama did give you a tax cutHe has a point Obama really didn't accomplish shyt except keep that stays quo...Trump and the Republican party has done so much for rich white people but why didn't Obama ever give us a fukking tax cut?!?

And Obama is the one who kept Harry Reid from cutting Lieberman's nuts off when he ran with the Republicans.

Joe Lieberman wasn't a democrat. He was under his last term. There really wasn't much to be done there. And Obama is the one who kept Harry Reid from cutting Lieberman's nuts off when he ran with the Republicans. Thus denying future leverage in case something like that exact scenario occurred.
Obama will have a complex, if disappointing and ultimately saddening legacy. It's perfectly fine to note and understand that most Democratic voters overwhelmingly still support and view him favorably while also pointing out that he did a lot of bad things with the good things.
Bill Clinton is still popular too and so was Reagan. If popularity is what you’re basing success on then we aren’t even discussing the same thing. There are a lot of popular people that have questionable legacies. Americans love their heroes.Joe Lieberman wasn't a democrat. He was under his last term. There really wasn't much to be done there.
Governing is difficult, but ultimately Obama's legacy will age just fine. He got the country out the recession, increased healthcare coverage, instituted HARP, created the CFPB, signed the Paris Climate agreement, the Iran Deal and presided over an era where the federal government took a largely hands off approach on states right to decide marijuana legalization. Most of this is what he campaigned on. Obama was never a leftists, never promised to usher in a leftist revolution, and any critique saying as much is dishonest.
Obama was and still is an extremely popular president. Sure he didn't achieve everything he said he would. No president has nor will they. It's just the makeup of the government and the populace. Something that Chomsky himself refers to in this article.
