Actually, in OKC's case, there was no disadvantage. They just drafted well. They were on even footing with the rest of the league

In the cases of stars creating super teams with their friends, there is a disadvantage because teams in "non glamour" markets cant compete with the Miami's and LA's of the league when it comes to attracting free agents

OKC with those pieces were considerably better than Miami pre trades. Plus you still had Lakers and Celtics who were coming off of their championships. Factor in the always dominant Spurs, and the Heat did what they had to do.
