kluwe is not the martyr that he makes himself out to be.

he's using the righteous cause of fighting against bigotry and then saying he was let go because of that. he's using anti-gay bigotry as a cover for his own personal dilemma.

kluwe was let go because for the amount of money he was making, he just wasn't good enough. a couple years earlier, he almost got let go by childress because he kept punting the ball to hester and one particular game to reggie bush (he was killing us on the returns).

he also was a horrible directional kicker and couldn't kill the ball inside the 20. for the amount of money he was making, it just wasn't good enough to be in the top 20, because he needed to do more and be better.

in terms of him being vocal -- he wasn't just vocal in his stance for gay rights, but he was also vocal with his disgust for the catholic church (he was super critical which brought in a lot of complaints from catholics whom didn't have anything to do with priests molesting children, etc). he also was highly critical of the nfl because ray guy was not in the hall of fame (protested by wearing a patch on his jersey), which brought a lot of attention. simply put, he was vocal about a lot of things and much of it brought a lot of attention and some of it negative.

they told him he could speak his mind, but to be respectful and not draw too much attention to the team.

he's a little conniving because he had plenty of opportunities to tell the owner that priefer was being a bigot, he could have told the other coaches, he could have told the GM (all this would've been kept in-house). he could have also went to the media, but he didn't...

and he didn't because at the time it wasn't in his best interest. civil rights was taking a backseat to his paycheck -- which is fine and it is his prerogative, but isn't that a bit hypocritical and in fact cowardly?

he wants to point the finger at the organization (the very people that bear the brunt of the aftermath of his commentary) and wants to get paid doing it. hence, him not saying shyt when he was getting paid.

he clearly has an agenda, and that is one that serves him best. it's not gay rights (like he makes you think it is). it's to get back at the vikings because he couldn't have his cake and eat it too.

here's what i think really happened (yes, it's speculation). priefer said some bigoted shyt to him, this bothered him. at the same time he was being vocal about myriad things, spielman and frazier told him to back off a little -- they told him you can talk if you want, but don't go so hard because we have to deal with the drama. concurrently, dude wasn't playing well but getting paid well.

the amount of money he was making in ratio to how well he was playing, in addition to all the attention he was bringing to the team, did not justify keeping him any longer (especially when you can get a rookie that makes a third of what you do and plays about the same -- getting younger and cheaper).

that's all there is to it. i believe him in regard to priefer, however, i don't believe they let him go because of his gay rights stance.

imo, they let him go because he was getting paid better than he was playing and he was bringing too much attention to the team [period].

kluwe knows this, but he's pissed at preifer and wants to get him fired or wants to keep him from another job. he's pissed at spielman for dropping him and at frazier for not having his back. he wants this to be a big story so he can get paid from this, somehow.

all, imo, of course.

Is there a reason why most hardcore pro-gay rights people (who aren't gay) are the most annoying sanctimonious rude jerks around who always have to look for a reason to be argumentative and hostile towards someone who might not completely agree with them?

Wherever whores go.....
Let's be honest, most of you are probably "punters" at your job, which is fine. Your company could get along fine without you. Let's say you were a social activist, trying to better the lives of other people. Your company fires you, stating performance issues when you know damn well your performance hasn't declined. You're telling me you're just gonna let that sh!t slide? But because Kluwe is in the NFL, he should just accept it and move on? GTFOH

This post though :wow:

“The NFL is a league where you can get redemption for killing someone, for beating your wife in an elevator, for driving drunk, for a whole variety of things but when you speak out for civil rights, that’s the one thing you cannot get redeemed for,” Kluwe added.

When he mentions “beating your wife in an elevator,” Kluwe is clearly referring to Ravens running back Ray Rice, who assaulted his now-wife in an incident early this offseason. Kluwe seems to think the fact that Rice is still with the Ravens, while Kluwe was cut by the Vikings and then cut by the Raiders and is now out of the league, is evidence that the NFL is more forgiving of wife beaters than gay rights supporters.

Kluwe: NFL favors wife beaters, drunk drivers over gay rights supporters
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 20, 2014, 3:10 PM EDT

Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is continuing his campaign against the NFL for what he says is an attitude of intolerance both toward gays and to people like Kluwe who have advocated for gay rights.

In his latest comments, Kluwe told FOX Twin Cities that Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer should have been suspended for more than three games for making anti-gay remarks after Kluwe began speaking out for gay marriage. Kluwe contrasted Priefer’s suspension with the suspensions for other violations of league rules.

“Players who get caught smoking weed or DUI get four games, and you’re telling me the guy who made a comment like ‘let’s round up all the gays put them on an island nuke it till it glows’ — he’s only going to get a slap on the wrist?” Kluwe said.

Kluwe is a bit off on the suspensions that players get, as players who get DUIs usually aren’t suspended at all unless someone is injured or killed or it’s a repeat offense. Regardless, Kluwe thinks the NFL has misplaced priorities.

The reality, however, is that Rice remaining in the NFL while Kluwe is out is not proof that the NFL thinks a player beating his wife is better than a player speaking out for gay rights. It’s proof that Rice is a better player than Kluwe. NFL teams will tolerate almost anything from a player who can help them win. That’s what the NFL really values.
