As a SJU alum the real last time we had hardcore championship aspirations was 2002. Roberts was a disaster, but Lavin gave us some hope. The problem with Lavin was he hated NY players ( unless they were super elite), and he wanted to be like Calapari.

Mullin for the most part has done a respectable job so far.

Flatbush gets it in. He is going hard. As an alum and a city kid who is the programs greatest, he will have a longer leash for his job. In my opinion the one who stopped the NYC flow was Mike Jarvis. Lavin had Mo Harkless who he recruited. Jarvis never had a city player, preferring to keep his DC connect strong. There were so many PSAL and CHSAA coaches who swore that they wouldn't send a player to SJU as long as Jarvis was there. I did like Bootsy Thorton and Lavar Postell, but I wanted to have more city kids staying put.
