That's called acting. Still not his character.Chris Rock had a sketch show is the point
On that show they did shyt like Pootie Tang.
Not only shyt like Pootie Tang, but also they did Pootie Tang on the show.
Chris Rock plays like 3 different characters in the movie
If you haven't seen the HBO show, the movie Pootie Tang is an example of the type of sketch comedy Chris Rock puts out.
Were there other writers besides Chris Rock? Yes.
Did Chapelle have writers other than himself on his sketch show? Of course. Charlie Murphy is the source of some of DAVE'S greatest sketches
See how that works?
Please tell me Louie CK ain't been writing all his standupThat's called acting. Still not his character.
The charlie murphy thing was just him acting out a story. Those were real people. Not original characters. Yeah he has writers on the show but Neal Brennan doesn't write Chappelles stand up like Louis CK does for Chris rock.
My two cents...
Chris and Dave are both top 5 all time.
Bigger and Blacker and Bring the Pain were life philosophy and culturally were 2 of the biggest standups of all time. If you were around in the 90's, it was Chris Rock and nobody else. Bernie honestly didn't have any impact until 99-2000.
Chris has slowly fizzled off over the years and Tambourine being his weakest stand up from a comedic standpoint, but it is very socially relevant from a state of relationships in modern day western culture. There's nuggets of knowledge in all of Chris's standups that you can apply to life.
All things being said though, I don't believe Chris Rock is naturally funny. He works hard at it, he has writers. You can find videos on YouTube where Chris molded his jokes over time until he put them in his HBO specials. This doesn't take away from him in my opinion, Pryor and Murphy had writers. You still need someone to deliver it.
Dave is just a naturally funny dude, who in recent years has hit his stride mixing in social commentary. For What It's Worth and Killing them Softly are classics, but most people didn't consider them classic until well after they came out. Dave wasn't that popular when them standups came out, and he was more popular with white folks for the people who actually saw them when they dropped. Dave's popularity is like the tv show The Wire. People came back to it later and realized how much of a genius he was after he left the Chappelle show.
I'd give Chappelle the slight edge now because these last 5 specials have been been consistently funnier than what Rock has been putting out. But as I said earlier Bring the Pain and bigger and blacker crushed the buildings when they dropped. They were like a bomb going off at the time, there was nothing else around. It was Chris and everyone else.
Both are top 5, but for different reasons. I ain't tripping if you put one over the other.
As far as Patrice, he's in my top 5 too. But its because I lump his radio shyt in there too. That don't really count though, it's like saying Jamie Foxx is top 5 because of Foxxhole radio. Both naturally funny dudes. But Patrice don't have the output to really be included.
Chappelle's best ain't as good as Chris Rock's best is my pointChris' last stand up was weak as hell, you might've had a case back in the day but Chapelle is on a 15' Warriors run right now
consistency and improving>>Chappelle's best ain't as good as Chris Rock's best is my point
Everybody Hates Chris wasn’t a skit show
It was a sitcom
Killing them softly and for what it's worth >>>>> all that Netflix shyt.consistency and improving>>
