Word is she made $ 250,000. She mustive felt it was worth it. She may have lost her main supporters by doing this than she would gain. Ah well.

She's easily one of the most gifted singers to come out in the last 20 years.

And her "supporters" haven't been very supportive sales wise.

She doesn't owe anybody anything.

She's an entertainer that was paid to entertain.

On one hand, this is an actual example of "selling out". Then again, a check is a check. Let's not kid ourselves, a lot of the keyboard militants on social media would sing and dance for a $200,000+ payday. Too bad she used the "building bridges" reasoning, she should've just said she was pursuing a lucrative opportunity and kept it moving.

If she'd EVER received $5 from everyone calling her names and suggesting that she not perform...she probably wouldn't need to perform :manny:

Not to compare her to Whitney, but a lot of you, who are old enough to remember what she went through should be ashamed of yourselves. Black people didn't really champion Whitney en mass until she started doing things that are sadly stereotypical. I remember being 7 years old watching Whitney get boo'ed at the Soul Train Awards. Fast forward 10 years later, she's got a "hood pass", SMMFH.

Bottom line, its ok to be opposed to her performing, but the name calling, shaming and utter disrespect for someone you feel has "let our race down" by performing at the Inauguration is WAAAAY more misguided and problematic than she is, regardless of her reasoning.
these dudes are idiots

I think there's way bigger things to worry about than this, I personally wouldn't have performed for any amount of money as I wouldn't want to feel like co signing anything or be used as a pawn.

However also some having this over the top rage at a black female singer seems a bit like giving too much attention to the wrong targets and what's insignificant in the grand scheme of things, I would rather have a conversation with her than insult her and see what's good first.

Also if they ain't dissing whoever else apparently performed Flo Rida or whoever it seems like picking and choosing somebody you feels weak.

My attention firmly on a lot of these racists and the systematic injustices than where a singer performs, even if it's a choice I disagree with.
