What denomination are you referring to? We don’t do that in my denomination.
We have liturgy pamphlets that are handed out each service that contain all the prayers and scriptures that will be said during the service. And then we have our prayer book that outlines the order of the service.
No one brings a Bible to church. I don’t think I’ve even seen a Bible in church.

Back in the day, many people were illiterate. They had to take what the preacher read out of the bible for face value. This got out of hand and priest where saying all kinds of wild stuff.
Martin Luther (not to be mistaken with Martin Luther King) got sick of the fukkery and challenged the catholic church to a fade. It didn't turn into a fade because they got shook after seeing Martin Luther send this Cardinal flying 10ft away into a wall and causing it to crack after Martin punched him in the chest. reform was put in place after they kicked him out of the set. This reform promoted literacy so people could see for themselves whats in the bible.
This is why alot of preachers today tell you to open up your bible and look at the verse so you can tell that he ain't cappin.
