So I went to this place that was about Civil War soldiers and stuff. Elementary school field trip.
White people working everywhere. No black, Asian or Hispanic folks.
They go into talking about plantations....
... and how you needed 20 slaves for it to be an official plantation....
... or else you would be a regular farmer.
These museum workers were all cool about having 20 slaves; and one had 51 slaves...
... and how the master and his family were considered multi-millionaires of that time....
This is a school field trip with a mix of races from the school. How do the black kids feel about these white folks talking about field slaves and house slaves....
... I would venture to guess that coli militants wouldn't be happy to say the least.
It was about how civil war soldiers lived. But the backstory on how the plantations existed was provided in a matter of fact kind of way, but still had me feeling like I needed to burn the entire facility to the ground.
But it's also a good thing to have... in a backwards kind of way... to make you think how times have changed and how wrong blacks were treated, and how you can't take the work of civil rights leaders from the past for granted.
Just had to get that off my mind. Peace out.
