Thats precisely the reason they switch it up every game, I don’t see how people can be tired of final fantasy when tehy specifically go out of their way to completely tell new stories and and invest in new game mechanics every entry.

i think the problem is people just hate new things and want to keep getting the same shyt in a different casing like Taco Bell. I’ve never heard of anyone getting tired of Yakuza and they’ve made like 7 games with the same graphics, city, and characters and animations

same thing for the last 3 persona games, its literally the same shyt.
I feel you on that me personally final fantasy doesnt drop that often for me to be burnt out on the franchise I love those games....but you're right though

Its funny how everyone is harping on the “turn based” being what makes Clair Obscur special over FF or other RPG’s when its really the writing and complexity of the characters.

i can’t even play a majority of JRPG’s these days because they’re so fukking immature. Persona is still about “defeating god through the power of friendship” and “adults are bad, we are the future”

At least FFXVI tried to balance it a bit more.

It’s refreshing hearing about the trauma certain characters carry, they are adults dealing with the loss of children, spouses, family members, family turmoils, etc.

If you read the article instead of running in here with your cape on this is what they are talking about.

Square said a modern game with a serious story and realistic graphics wouldn’t be comparable with turn based combat.

E33 proves it’s possible.

Not once did I think about FF through my entirety play through of Clair Obscur. Definitely a strange article. And from Windows Central, so no doubt Xbox/MS slanted.

I did. This game reminds me of classic FF except with far better dialog. FF used to write interesting stories and characters. They haven’t accomplished that in a long time. They had to remake FF7 just to not produce some fukking more trash

This.

Not to rehash that other thread but I don't understand how people are playing this and not seeing how far Square has fallen in comparison. It's one of the first things I thought about in the opening hours of the game.

Gaming is like comfort food for people now a days. They just want to log on and turn their brain off doing another routine. new innovative games means you gotta go out of your way to learn shyt and find shyt.

And for me I hate that. Gaming is an artform, so I want to play, discuss and critique it like ART.

FF16 was fire
I think the game itself was extremely well made, but the story still sucked. There’s something about the more classic square games stories that haven’t hit since FFX. They always had intriguing characters and stories that grabbed me from the start. FF16 still failed in that regard to me, despite the A+ gameplay / visuals / music etc.

You could also make the argument that they fukked up FF7R writing wise, but I actually liked what they decided to do personally but you could make the argument. I don’t know what happened but they lost the human element in their stories that made you care about the characters, along with questionable voice acting / dialogue / etc. I can’t emphasize how BIGly important the facial mo-cap is on the characters in this game. You can actually feel their emotions without any uncanny valley effect.

Nah i disagree. The game was missing thingd gameplay wise for me actually. But the story kept me.
