Jim bailed Max out on the condition that he sign a ridiculous contract, think of the Tupac - Suge situation.
Max signed it, got out, but he eventually became disgruntled, feeling betrayed by Jim because he only bailed him out on the condition that he sign away his career to him.
Max started saying he wrote Jim's biggest hits, among a ton of other shyt (including saying that Jim's girl Chrissy touched it in Miami).

Jim said several times he wanted Stack to move away from Far Rock and offered him houses/condo's etc.. thats one i thing i'd believe from Jim...Jim loves money more than anything and Stack would've made him money...seems like he had genuine love for him too so i'm inclined to believe him on that one.
