"Make money money, go shopping! Take money money, go shopping!" :whoa: Nah bruh

Like every song on the album is a classic but then the mall just comes outta nowhere with that shyt and its right after a nikka be vibin to make em pay :lawd:. It doesn't even feel like it should be on the album, its not straight trash but it does not feel like it should be there.

I'll agree that it sounds totally out of place on the album. But as a standalone song, it's good. I can't be mad at saying go shopping in the hook of a song about The Mall. It threw me off in the beginning as well tho :yeshrug:

Moment Of Truth is easily above and beyond their other albums imo, but I can legit say I enjoy all of their projects. Amazing music from the both of them.

Sort of off topic, but I always loved this joint from them, and I never see anyone talking about it. That beat :ohlawd:

Damn good thread btw.

None.

and DJ Premier is my favorite producer ever. I think Moment of Truth and Hard to Earn come close. Definitely closer than some coliclassics. But still not one classic. Just 2 great albums.

Time to go listen to Gang Starr's discography. Which one should I start off with?

In order:
Moment of Truth
Hard To Earn
Ownerz
Daily Operation
Step in the Arena
No More Mr Nice Guy

Hard to choose 5 favorites but:

Dwyck
Mass Appeal
You Know My Steez
Just to Get a Rep
Above the Clouds

Great list.

Similar to mine:

Mass Appeal (#1) - easily one of the greatest rap beats in history. Top 20.
You Know My Steez
Above The Clouds
Full Clip
The Code of the Streets
6th man: Royalty
7th man: Same Team No Games

Afu-Ra got BLESSED

:wow:

That "Mic Stance" beat is a top 50 Premo beat :whew:

I personally think Gangstarr has 4 classic albums (Step In The Arena, Daily Operation, Hard To Earn, and Moment of Truth….each one progressively better then the last). I'm actually appalled :what: at how little love Hard To Earn is getting in this poll.

Only Hard To Earn in my opinion. That's the one album the general consensus "knows" by GangStarr.

Daily Operation didn't make that kind of dent. Moment Of Truth is damn close...but I couldn't say it definitively.
I love The Ownerz, and it's one of my favorite albums since the turn of the century, but I don't know if everyone
else does.

Voted yes to Hard to Earn and Moment of Truth. The earlier albums have some songs here and there, but as someone else said, I think Premier really took off on Hard to Earn and kept going from there. Not to take anything from Guru, but I've always felt like Premier was who I listened for on these albums. As others have said, there are songs/albums from other artists that I tend to enjoy more over Premier production...with Jeru just being one example.

what does everybody hate about the ownerz ? i mean it's no classic but why is it seen as not worthy of their discography, the song with jada is one of my fav gangstarr so that alone gets the album to 3 mics. were they already beefing during the making of the album or something, or do people feel they tried to sell out ? i really don't get it

anyway voted fot hard to earn and moment of truth, as a hip hop act they are easily top 20, maybe even top 10.

that's what happens when you release top tier albums, the rest are looked down upon

it's happened to Nas with Illmatic, happens to Tribe with the first 3 or at least Low End and MM, etc. such that anything that doesn't live up to those standards is a 'fail'.

Btw changing my Hard to Earn vote to YES
