I guess I'm just not much of a Goodie fan, I didn't have Soul Food back when it dropped, but I have it a chance a couple years back and it was dope but nothing mind blowing.
I copped Still Standing on release date, dubbed it and returned it :yeshrug:
I can't even fathom that people think that's a classic. I can at least see the argument with Soul Food.

It is to me, and I'm sure many people in the south. It's not like you're finna change my opinion just because you think it isn't. I don't give a fukk about your opinion. nikka you're not the authority of what good music is. Keep that bullshyt to yourself homie

You can have your opinion breh. But you know damn well that's not the majority opinion. Soul Food is not in the running for GOAT album amongst knowledgeable heads. Unless you got receipts to the contrary?

nikkas who consider themselves "knowledgeable heads" are typically 30+ year old hip hop nerds on internet forums who are out of touch with anything that doesn't align with their personal tastes in music. Also they tend to be nikkas who sound like their opinions on music come from "greatest albums of all time" lists, instead of their own opinions. That shyt doesn't really matter

For a genre that's now 40 years old, yeah, to have the breadth of knowledge to have an informed opinion, being over 30 is damn near a prerequisite. Having lived through 95 is important in talking about an album released that year.
Most young people don't do their homework. Most aren't really hip hop fans period. They like what they hear on the radio or their friends play and not much beyond that. That was true of most people in the 90s too. They don't give a fukk about a GOAT album.
For those that try to go back and catch up its a hell of an undertaking.

But ok, being knowledgeable and having lived through 95 isn't important. And you don't care about GOAT lists either? Ok.
So what does matter than? Make your case for Soul Food being seen as a GOAT album.

First two are automatic classics, as explained by ONP, the third was created in the midst of the production's downfall. Their last two albums were :trash:

I was born in 95, but I've definitely done my homework. Compared to the vast majority of folks my age, my knowledge of hip hop is extensive. Soul Food is one of the first album covers I remember seeing. The concepts of the songs on that album were amazing and unprecedented. Every song is essentially a slice of southern life, compared to the super-thug trap lyrics you hear from most trap artists nowadays. Listening to that album will show you the true realities of living down here. For instance, listen to Cee-Lo' s verse on this song. I don't think I've ever heard an artist be this accurate and earnest in his portrait of his environment. There's not too many artists that I can say portray the realities of life as well as they did on this album. Every track seems heartfelt and well thought out. Lyrically, all of them nikkas were spitting their asses off throughout the whole album. Their subject matter was extremely diverse too. Them nikkas were rapping about conspiracy theories, faith in God, empowering the black community and a lot more

voted yes for soul food BUT I do think it's pretty damn ridiculous that soul food will make the cut when the roots "illadelph halflife" and "things fall apart" fell way short.

2 things

1. Soul Food is way more of a classic than any Roots album
2. The Coli have fukked up before with giving Common, Eminem, Kanye and Kool G Rap 0 classics
