Critical Beatdown. Not because of quality but influence.

Sun Rises in The East is close to classic but not quite.

Top 5 Jeru songs:

Jungle Music (#1 in my book. One of the most underrated hip hop tracks ever)
Invasion
99.9 Per Cent
Come Clean
D Original

Top 5 Ultramagnetic:

Poppa Large [Beatminerz remix] (easy #1)
Traveling at the Speed of Thought (remix)
Give The Drummer Some --- (smack my bytch up!!)
Break North
Ced-Gee

Sun Rises In The East & Critical Beatdown are absolute.

I personally think 'Funk Your Head Up' is maybe the most unfairly received follow up album post classic, ever. That jawn still sounds next level to me today.

Wrath of the Math is dope but not even half of the crack Sun rises is.

What d'you think woulda happened if Jeru got the Guru treatment and got Premo pretty much for life instead of just a couple of albums?

I think Jeru > Guru so we'd have much better albums that what we got outta Gang Starr, but not to say those albums weren't fantastic. Also by the time Premo started in 1994 with Jeru, he was reaching a whole new level of production. Peep his shyt from Hard to Earn and The Sun Rises onwards versus everything before. Huge improvement imo.

Jeru started faltering on album number 2 though. Guru, no matter where you land on his Skillz, made the most of those beats.

Gang Starr > Jeru The Damaja

Really? I figured that Jeru was getting better rap-wise but Premo's beats fell off a little on Wrath of the Math.
:yeshrug:

I mean just going off rap talent and I also believe that The Sun Rises > any Gang Starr album, I think a Jeru-Premo duo would have been better.

Or d'you think Jeru's supposed fall-off meant he was rapping worse than Guru?
