D'you guys prefer Public Enemy or NWA, and why?

Group, PE. ITANOMTHUB is in my Top 10 favorite hip-hop albums of all time, and FOABP is Top 60, which is also where Straight Outta Compton is. Though solo albums by people who were NWA members, Cube has two albums in my Top 15, and D.O.C. is Top 20.

Growing up, I was into the pro-black PE, PRT, X-Clan, etc. tip to counteract the BS I had to face.

Chuck D said:
Our initial direction as Public Enemy was to market nationalism. I knew that people in music liked trends. Our concept was to wear African leather medallions or something other than gold because people were getting their heads taken off for gold back then. Your brain is more important than what you wear around your neck. The information you can store and how you can build a business or organization is more important than anything you can buy. When you buy something, you’re buying it from someone that’s selling it. The importance of a BMW seller is more important than a BMW owner. Big deal, you have a car, they make cars for you to buy. Big deal, you have a gold chain around your neck, someone is making those chains for you to buy. Become the producer and manufacturer, not just the consumer. We were saying that a gold brain is more important than a gold chain. A BMW brain is more important than a BMW.

We knew that if our people were going to be trendy we could at least make it trendy to have them learn about themselves and their history. In the current Hip-Hop climate to say you are “pro-Black and positive” may not be the trend, but the information and feeling we passed on through our music are still with those who listened to it because people will go back to using it later on in their lives. They may be blunted and drink 40s for the time being but you can’t be intelligent and throw it all to the side. It’s in you, it’s in your soul. You may ignore it for a little while but as you have more difficulty in life you’ll get back to it. It’s just a matter of time. It may not come from me, it could be KRS-One, Eric B. & Rakim, Goodie Mob, something that you read, your partners, all of those influences can inspire you to manifest and use the information for yourself throughout the course of your life. It might not be today or tomorrow, it might be fifteen years from now. They key thing is what we said they will never be able to get rid of. Everybody has their experiences transferred in them, especially the experience of intelligence, and that’s what we tried to sell—intelligence.

PE coming along when they did played a role in my becoming the man I ultimately grew to be.

I am surprised that their first album has more yes votes than 91, thought that was really underrated, 3rd best album to me

I also prefer Public Enemy as a group over NWA, but Ice Cube the most from both groups.

Ice Cube over Bomb Squad production was glorious, and btw the producers deserve just as much credit for their crazy innovation.

Just based on NWA albums or NWA albums + solo careers?

Makes a difference to my choice

both if you want

damn! 4 classics?

how come?

also where's your activity sir?
:francis:
First off, I'm not a huge PE guy by any stretch of the imagination. So none of this is my personal opinion, its all my perception of how these albums are viewed.
It takes a Nation is beyond reproach.
The first three albums were listed on the top 100 Source albums list :yeshrug:
The fourth album...everytime I hear people talk about it...its done with reverence. :wow:
SO fukk it, I'm giving them four. :ehh:
They are only gonna get two it looks like though. :yeshrug:
As for an activity, I'm sitting here in my office on a beautiful Sunday afternoon with youtube pulled up to Fear of A Black Planet while I work on this cross examination outline for the doctor i have to cross examine next week. :francis:
Can't even listen to the album b/c its distracting :francis:
Be an attorney brehs :stopitslime:

I think PE only deserve 2 as I voted, like those have the highest quality by far and I think in terms of recognition are in a league of their own

Public Enemy was the better group by miles

different dynamic tho considering Chuck D was the main rapper for the most part

whereas Cube and Ren and Dre shared rapping duties

but you're right for sure. I prefer their two main albums over SOC as well

but Cube solo >>>>>>>
