the cop fukked up. if people were in danger, someone from the rec center would have made that phone call, not a passerby. the caller also said the gun could be fake. the cop should have taken into account those factors and asked for some back up, evacuated the rec center so there weren't any other casualties if they truly felt there was a serious threat.

• the boy’s name is Tamir Rice
• the person who called 911 told the operator multiple times that the gun was probably fake and the person with the gun was probably a kid
• that detail about the initial report doesn’t appear in news reports as much as I think it should — it’s just witnesses reported a male waving a gun around
• you can listen to the tape here
• the shooter was a rookie cop
• the cop shot twice
• as of 10 minutes ago (3:46pm 11/23) we don’t know if Tamir was hit by both shots
• he was hit in the stomach and died this morning
