Repubs are panicking and know that removing Trump is more for their own benefit and for the party's brand. They did that to Bob Dole when they knew he wasn't going to win in the end. Pence still is a right wing zealot though, he is just more polished in his positions. He cut funds for HIV programs and diverted them towards conversion therapy and he also had the funeral for fetus legislation. There was an article on how the Dems are archiving everything Republicans have said about Trump for future use. They can use the Obama strategy of pressuring them to disavow Trump which has the unintended consequence of shielding some Republicans in state races from Trump dragging down the brand.

Because they're posturing and they want it to be known that they stood up to Trump. Trump alienated white women which is a demographic they need. Now because they're afraid of losing the Senate or even the House (unlikely) they have to separate from Trump. It's just posturing. Moreover, Trump's demographic would be pissed and stay home or vote in Trump. Trump stepping down would be an even larger loss for Republicans.
Bingo.

And they would lose the house...in 2018

GOP might have to splinter because that's a ticket that would appeal to the public at large, but not the large Trump GOP base

:camby:Trump's base needs to get the hell out and fall back in the shadows like they did in 2012. That's the good thing about Republicans running moderates, the far right a$$holes stay home. If Huntsman or Kaisch ran against Hilary they would crush her by the share margin of independents that would side with them. Those alt-right weirdos would not be needed.
