Gang Starr is still a group.

Rakim calls Eric B. & Rakim a group too. When they fell out, he was solo.

And Flav rapped on mad PE records. He wasn't just a hype man. Come on now.

NWA had two classics. And Clipse ain't nowhere near NWA's level, lol.

You're rating albums, but this is about impact and classics. LOX vs Clipse in a Verzuz type setting. Clipse don’t have the records to f*ck with no damn LOX. We all know that.
Like I said, If you’re calling them a group, than add BDP and g rap/polo, gangstarr and of course clipse gets bounced from top 10. Those 3 alone probably change the trajectory of any top 5. I might even bump Wu from my top 5 because the ones we just mentioned actually have a better catalog.

Im not ignoring impact, never would. But at some point we have to reward body of work and catalog.

And I don’t agree with NWA having 2 clsssics, nikkaz4life was not a classic, not even close.

And speaking of lox, i didn’t even mention 8ball n mjg, 3 6, bone, nwa, MOP, pharcyde in my top 10 and they all lap them too

That's the thing though, KRS and D-Nice call BDP a group too. They always have.

So in this case, I'm going by who has the most classic jams. I love the Clipse, but they're not universally lauded. Honestly, if we did a Black Starr vs Clipse poll or some sh*t on Twitter, that would probably be mad close. So I'm looking at groups like if they performed mad of their songs, how many known classics would kill a crowd?

The Clipse don’t have that kinda acclaim. They have joints, but not like the other groups we mentioned.

And nah, Efil4zaggin was everywhere when it dropped. I'm in NYC, and when that came out '91 summer, you couldn't escape it. It was getting damn perfect reviews too. That's probably some of Dre's best production work ever. And they pulled off selling a million copies, even with Cube leaving. Definitely a classic. I've never seen anyone say it's not, lol.

I didn’t even put mos/talib in my list and I have both black starr and black on both sides in my top 10 albums of all time.

Clipse to me got 2 classics. Even if you don’t want personal opinion, HHNF is a critically acclaimed album, its a 90 on metametric, with a bunch of full 5 star or 10 star ratings.

I never liked "efil4zaggin" nor did anyone else in my social circle in real time, aside from a couple songs. :yeshrug:

Sh*t was an over the top parody album. The beats were great.

I loved that sh*t when I was a kid though! LOL!! Heavy levels of f*ckery.

Today, I see it differently than I did back then. But in real time, I thought the beats on that sh*t were godly. It's the lyrics that are weird to listen to now, on like 1/2 the album.

I'm probably a little older than you then.

Clipse definitely has two classics.

But I have them more in the Black Star kinda tier of groups.

We might be in the same range, I think.

That was grade school ever, for me. When I finally started buying my own albums.

Hell no. :mjlol:

I was 15 in '91. Not that 15 is some old wise age but I could see someone in grade school finding that album a lot more entertaining than a 15 year old. Especially given what else was out in '91.

Again, to wrap this debate up. I agree if we add all the duo’s, the ones that don’t even rap, or groups with hypemen. Then yes, clipse ain’t top 10, maybe not even top 15.

But since i choose to exclude groups like gang starr, eric b and rakim. I got clipse in my top 10.

I respect your opinion, that’s the only reason i engaged back n forth with you. Im also 41, born n raised in NYC

But i will not respect your opinion on The Lox
