Without Cody the The Bucks and Omega are still content just wrestling in ROH/NJPW. He's the one that even had the connect to Tony.
How AEW Was Born: Inside Tony Khan and the Elite's Attempt to Disrupt Wrestling

Before long, the Jacksons and Khan were conducting their back-patio chats, and in short order, the Rhodeses and Omega were brought aboard.

https://cultaholic.com/posts/the-young-bucks-detail-their-first-meeting-with-tony-khan

Nick said: "What's funny is he tried contacting us both at first and I no-sold it because I had heard this story before. I was like, 'Ah, I don't believe it' [laughs]. Luckily, thank god, Matt picked up the phone and talked to him. After one conversation, Matt and I, we were still sceptical a little bit, but the way he had talked to Matt, Matt was like, 'I think he knows what he's talking about' and it opened our eyes.

"The relationship got further and I remember meeting him for the first time in London at York Hall for a Ring of Honor show. He was in the balcony and little did Ring of Honor know that we were going to meet him [laughs].

"He picked us up in a limousine right after that and took us to the stadium his team plays at and we pretty much talked from there, things started snowballing and we pretty much knew it was serious when we were at his stadium and he's telling us, 'Maybe we can fill this thing up one day!'"

Cody pitching the idea of a company to Tony Khan or being connected to him before AEW isn’t true at all. The Bucks laid out the development of AEW in their book, and Tony reached out to the Bucks first with the idea. All of the initial meetings were done with Matt and to a lesser degree Nick. Omega, Cody, and everybody else involved didn’t come into the picture until much later.

The Bucks and Omega were going to sign with WWE and had already worked out deals with HHH, but Tony convinced the Bucks to start a new promotion and everybody else followed along.

I remember the Bucks saying them & Kenny were a package deal wherever they went. I was listening to their episode on the AEW podcast awhile ago, and I remember them saying that Tony had convinced one of the Bucks but not the other. It took awhile for one of them to come along with his idea of starting AEW. I think it was Matt who was reluctant at first, but I can't remember.

All In was an independent professional wrestlingpay-per-view (PPV) event promoted by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) in association with Ring of Honor(who own the rights to the event).[3][4] At the time, Rhodes and the Jacksons had been a part of the Bullet Club of New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Ring of Honor (ROH). It took place on September 1, 2018 at the Sears Centre Arena in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The event aired live on traditional PPV outlets, FITE TV, and Honor Club, but it was later made available for on demand viewing on the NJPW World streaming service.[5]

The event was notable for being the first non-WWEor World Championship Wrestling promoted professional wrestling event in the United States to sell 10,000 tickets since 1993.[7] The success of the event would inspire the formation of All Elite Wrestling in 2019.

The biggest myth about AEW is that it's Cody's brainchild that he brought to the Bucks, Kenny, and TK. @THEREALBRAND and @jwinfield have the correct story.

TK was always going to put together some type of wrestling promotion. He was talking to Kevin Reilly (CCO of WarnerMedia and President of TNT and TBS when AEW was being developed) in early-mid 2018, pre-All In, about putting together a wrestling promotion. Hell, Jim Ross talks about meeting TK and having him soft-pitch the concept of a wrestling company to him while he was working for NJPW in his second book. Add in the story from the Bucks's book, and it's honestly astonishing how Cody's gotten fans to believe his line of bullshyt about AEW being his baby. Couldn't be further from the truth in some respects.

With all that said, dude was an integral part of the promotion both in front of and behind the camera, and was especially valuable to AEW during its early days when he still had that babyface connection with the fans. Which is why this is so baffling to everyone: Cody had everything a wrestler could ask for in that he was a top level player in the ring that also had a secure office position, probably for life if he really wanted it, not to mention an entire wing of the company to himself (also: making AEW Community Outreach use your Twitter handle so that when someone interacts with them or they do something good, one of the first things you see is "Cody Rhodes"? What a fukking carny...). But as with many things concerning Cody, his own ego got in the way of him recognizing what Kenny and the Bucks probably recognize about how rare positions like theirs are for wrestlers period, especially wrestlers under 40 (more than likely because those three had to grind hard for what they had even before AEW started. The Bucks in particular were a business unto themselves years before AEW was a thing). It makes no sense to just give that up because you can't book, especially when you're probably never going to get that position back even if you return to AEW.

And it's not like TK didn't try to make Cody happy. He basically gave him an entire wing of the show to himself for a year and a half, where Cody went on to prove that he didn't deserve to have the book by completely ruining what made him so valuable to AEW in the first place. In that time frame, literally no one he worked with ended a feud with him in a better place that where they began. No one...not Penta, not Ogogo, not Malakai Black, not Andrade, not Sammy, nobody period. At best, that ended up in the same spot. And given that the one avenue to refresh his character was closed off because he loved his community outreach work so much and didn't want to turn heel (to the point that he stated that he couldn't job to anyone who wouldn't do community outreach work during an interview), TK was kind of handcuffed in how he could handle Cody's character. When Cody comes to you after you bent over backwards so hard, even to the point of actively not activating his option and renegotiating his contract in good faith, and asks for things he hasn't at all earned in front of or behind the camera, what would you do in TK's position?

Don't even want to talk about Brandi's position in all of this. She might be a worse cancer than Stephanie McMahon, which is really saying something. Stephanie could at least work a little bit every so often. I'd bet good money these negotiations went immediately south after she made a hash of that segment she did with Dan Lambert and Paige VanZant (not to mention that the very fukking idea of Brandi getting PVZ's first match is ridiculous. I kinda hate Britt Baker these days, but at least she's a ratings draw, a regularly featured player in the division, and can work a little bit).

This all really seems to come down to Cody and Brandi being massive marks for themselves and overplaying their hands badly. I'm taking all reports of Cody going to WWE with a grain of salt until he shows up on their TV, but I can't imagine a dumber and more ass-backwards decision for him to make. Yeah, he might get more money, but that's it. Vince does not like to be shown up, and now he has Cody working for him again? He's never been someone Vince ever wanted to push, so he might be treated like a somebody for a few months, but he'll be right back to his midcard slot soon enough. So Cody will be well-paid, but unhappy with no means of influencing his situation. Hope he's happy with that.

I agree with this 100%. Cody needs to understand he will never be a main event in WWE. He’ll come
back and be pushed for a bit but then he’ll be back down the card not doing shyt and that’s guaranteed.

Cody and CM Punk will never be happy until they main event a wrestlemania AS champion, AND win, AND have a meaningful run, AND only put over who they want, AND get time off when they want AND creative control.

no pleasing them.

i cant believe with Cody's knowledge of wrasslin he couldnt see how self indulgent his presentation was, he was booking himself like a World Champion without the World Champion,
that fukking entrance was all you needed to know :scust:
That entrance was an autistic child’s nightmare

What if he wanted the company to be run with more structure, and lean a lil bit into the E way in those terms, but everyone wanted to do the casual "come up with ur own shyt and if we like it we'll put u on" backstage freestyling vibe. What if he wanted to push more black talent, and as the top media figureheads, he and Brandi had to cape for the booking and choice of pushed talent despite being pushed out on important decisions month by month

What if they shipped out the only person who had the correct vision for the company? :jbhmm:

:pacspit: they need bring back Triple H in-ring one night only just to bury Cody, then job him out for the remainder of the contract :pachaha:

All the talk about how his presentation was part of a slow burn heel turn because there's no way he could lack that much self-awareness, but in fact it turns out he really was just stroking his ego every week on national TV :mjlol:

Brandi was terrible and kept being forced on the show. The best thing to happen was her pregnancy which removed her from tv for a few months. The fact that she was going to be PVZs first feud is :mindblown:

I actually like Cody but he got to a weird spot where the audience didn't want to see him. His heel turn would have worked but he seemed too worried about his reality and game shows.

Vince is going to bury him when he comes back to WWE. Cody is not on the level of Jericho, Big Show, Mark Henry or even Ambrose/Moxley. He will get a big debut and will jobbing to Baron Corbin in a few months.

Him not wanting to turn heel because of those game shows is stupid as fukk

For one Simon Cowell or whatever his last name is was the biggest heel and prolly the most famous of those judge panel type shows

Not to mention Cody is anything but a baby face on the Go Big Show. He by far the most cruel judge on there. He literally convinces the other judges to give lower ratings to contestants than they were planning to. The other 3 be cool, then Cody out of nowhere say some foul shyt to the contestant and is usually the only one who does so :gucci:
