if they shoot and miss (it hits rim) you bring it back out

if you steal or block their shot you don't need to being it back out

if they shoot it and it air balls or hit backboard you don't need to bring it back out you can go up and score

Not if you get a steal a lot of the times youll already be behind the defense, clearing it out signifies a change of possession like getting a defensive board and going into your half court set....I'll be damn if I clear out a shot that doesn't hit rim,a steal, or block

and even if you do get blocked/shoot an airball you got 2 other teammates who are probably in the paint or near the rim who will contest any layup on the airball you threw up

It's literally never even been a debate. It's unspoken knowledge among 99.9% of people I've ever played with that you clear everything. I've maybe had one or two people who ever tried to put back a airball and everyone was like
