What's up with this Nipsey Hussle ducking the reporter shyt y'all talking about?

can’t remember why but nipsey threatened this reporter…reporter had an MMA background and more or less said they could set up a match…ultimately they spoke and nipsey’s tone became a bit more positive

Before his death, I wouldn't even say Nipsey was more popular than Schoolboy Q.

Schoolboy Q had moderate success, some collabs with major artists, and had dudes raving about his albums Oxymoron and Blank Face. He also did that collab with Macklemore which was a hit. In fact, I've seen Schoolboy Q get mentioned and shown love on rap forums and blogs way more than Nipsey even when Victory Lap came out.

So, whether Nipsey was "known" or not is subjective but it also begs the question: Is Schoolboy Q today "well known" or a household name? I would say no. Pretty much just hardcore rap fans know who Q is and there's many casual rap fans who don't know much about him other than being associated with TDE/Kendrick.

Nipsey was semi-known in rap circles prior to death but he never crossed over and became a guy that people outside rap or even most casual rap fans knew about. You would have to be really in tune with hip hop(especially West Coast rap) to know about Nipsey Hussle and his music career. Victory Lap showed that his stature was growing but it still wasn't enough to make him truly "known" outside rap forums and blogs.

But, like I said, it all depends on what you mean by "known."

I thought he was a comedian when he died. Then some of my day ones, nikkas that I'd seen everyday, hung out every weekend, are all of a sudden his biggest fans, when I ain't never heard them playing his music and ain't ever heard them mention his name.

ATL to MEM
Jada should be beve

Nispey album Nominated for

Do you notice 2 Pac sales increased after he died?

Going by that logic
So that means Pac was not known or impacting the game when he was alive?

This whole "he sold more after he died " means nothing" because impactful rappers can sell Alot alive or be famous before and after death.

Slim Thug was pretty popular in the early 2000s platinum singles, Jay Z remix of his single. Iciest chain game in the Rap game.
I know it was 20 years ago but y'all gotta remember

nikka what? You comparing 2pac to Nipsey Hustle?

Y’all act like it’s a diss for saying he was more regional at that time. He wasn’t mainstream by any measure.

You'd more likely hear Meg, Cardi, Joey Bada$$, Kirk Knight, JID, etc.

My service area was NY/NJ/CT/PA/DE.
outside of badass and knight, none of them were popping from 2013-2016. That’s when nip was up with his mixtapes
He definitely was known by a certain age range of hiphop fans.

I just wouldn't say he was a regular in the rotation.

And I'm saying that as a CT head, from Hartford county.
You probably around the same age as me then. Anyone whose between 24-33 was bumping him. I’m 28 currently

Music wise or by name recognization because the numbers don’t support that. I’ll take your word tho, I’ve never lived in that area.
He was on the same xxl freshman list as cole, wiz, gibbs, & jay roc in 2010

Real music hiphop Heads in that area was listening to him I know because I was a crazy music head in highschool around that time

His marathon tape dropped around when cole dropped warm up. shyt was getting played back to back

Nip wasn’t a megastar but he was known and each year grew his fan base.. what’s the problem with people enjoying his music after death and becoming fans.. if y’all remember some of the early 2010s he was on XXL freshman list songs with Ross ,Thug, Drake, YG, Tyga ,Game etc.. if you were on datpiff or livemixtapes you came across his music . No one is saying he was as big of a star like Kendrick or Drake but he wasn’t some bum..

Regional artist only selling 30k with no real hits. Mainstream audience did not know him or care about him like that, plain and simple.

I been a Nipsey fan since bullets ain't got no name vol 3. Yall need to be honest that his fame skyrocketed after his death. A lot of fake love, bandwagoning, and some new fans that ended up liking some of his ideologies/business mentality more than the music.
