:mjlol:Family Guy spoke nothing but facts.

:mjlol:I said it back when he passed. Nipsey wasn't getting spins like that before he died, yet was compared to Jesus (seriously) after he died.

:mjlol:Hell, even in Cali he wasn't getting spins. He was known more for his interviews than his music.

I can’t buy that. I literally remember nikkas playing Bullets Aint Got No Name back in my freshman year college days in 2010, 2011. He was bubbling on the mixtape circuit. Pop the trigger, kill that nikka, make sure that you get ‘em…..Horrible lyrics in hindsight considering what happened to him but I was playing that along with The Warmup/FNL, Section80, K&OJ, etc.

Nobody said he was anything like a bum.

This entire threads momentum is solely due to one dude refusing to accept that Nipsey wasn't That Guy in hiphop before he died.

Like I said before, imo the perfect placement for him was like a step below Big Sean.

Had his fans and his discography but he was still climbing up the ladder.
That's not a wild place to put him but that ain't what nikkas are doing

Nikkas acting like Nip was selling CDs out the trunk before he died

Outside of Cali the average person did not know who Nipsey Hussle was until he got with Lauren. I thought he was a generic Cali rapper when he got with Lauren because I nor anyone else I know knew who he was at first.:skip: I'm 22 so I can speak for "GenZ" as far as that's concerned. Not saying he had fans of course he did but casual rap fans did not know who he was, especially outside of Cali., I can't speak for older people but younger people were def not checking for him like that at all.

Don't give a fukk if he was consider "known" or not fr. It's goofy to be even arguing about it in 2023.

A niche following rocked with him from Slauson Boys, Bullets Ain't Got no name all the way to victory lap, and prob ten times that hopped on after his passing. It is what it is.
His notoriety increased 1000 fold because of his death.

:mjlol: Who you telling? "Strapped" is one of my personal favorite hip hop songs of all time. I been on Nipsey from day 1. He wasn't getting spins like that homie. He was known more for his interviews and who he dated than his music-- that's a fact. His albums sales correlate with that.

He was known more on the West Coast and real Hip Hop heads from all over knew of him but the average HIp Hop fan(one who only listens to commercial Hip Hop)didn't know who he was until he was killed. CACS especially went overboard with it, I wasn't too irked about us posting about him, just the vultures that made it sickening.

I'm from Texas and I listened to Nipsey since 2013.

OP is delusional as hell if he really thinks that Nipsey was well known like that before 2018.

Nipsey I knew of for years before he died but he wasn't one of the superstar movers in hip hop.

And that's fine.

I'm sure if you'd asked him, he'd have said the same thing but been fine with it since he prioritized ownership over acclaim.

He wasn't no Mac Dre kinda local artist at all but he wasn't That Guy in hip hop.

I will say Victory Lap was getting him more attention than anything else he'd done and this was well before he died so it was his breakout album.
That’s exactly what he’s been saying. He was forever doing his own thing. Ownership over acclaim, he died for that mindset.
