This is a chance for the Democrats. They need to talk about this on the airwaves constantly. They will peel off a huge number of voters from trump if they can promise to return things to the way they were under Obama.

A lot of these people don’t know how withholding rates, tax breaks, or effective tax rates work. The people who owe under $1000 probably still paid less in taxes, it was just spread out over the year in marginally bigger paychecks. Americans can’t save, the “IRS Savings Account”, the tax refund does what a lot of Americans can’t.

And for the record, I paid 14k in federal income tax in 2017, and roughly 12k in 2018. My refund was about $500ish, with altering my withholding from 1 to 2.

I stand to get back what roughly amounts to a car note. Finding this out made me stop doing the tax refund. I'll file before April gets here.

I fear I may owe state taxes though, which would be :pacspit:

I don't understand the issue. Did people expect to get more money back thru out the year and then a tax refund?

Didn't the national debt go up recently to like 25 trillion? The hell they thought the government was gonna do, give away extra money they didn't have? These motherfukkers can't even afford their own salaries with all these shut downs. Let alone give regular folks higher tax returns. :francis:

The issue is that many of the itemized deductions that use to be available to middle and low class Americans are now gone which effectively raised the tax burden on them.

I got back approx. 1/3 of my usual refund (homeowner with mortgage deduction) - but my takehome pay went up $200/month in January 2008. In all, coming out ahead.
