Lightsabers are strong, but I feel it would deflect back or simply be unable to penetrate the shield...

theoretically based on all the information we have, not in a fight. because this is a simple matter of heat and melting point. if it were possible, lightsaber would have to have direct contact for much more than a brief period. simple strikes wont do anything.

There are many times where a lightsaber will slash, but not completely halve or penetrate metal or durasteel.

Cuts great through wrists and tendons....just ask Count Dooku
