t-dot till they bury me
1.its for my living so its mainly for watching cable or my htpc - Assuming that the living room would get lots of natural light, I would get a LCD/LED; if LED look for full array, or edge/back lit that supports dimming if you want the optimal picture quality
2.no warranty unless its a plasma- why do you want warranty for just plasma??
3.explain why I shouldnt cop 2011 or 2012 plasmas - dont listen to that; I wouldnt touch anything pre 2011 due to the burn in/ghosting issues others have mentioned. As long as you're not leaving the tv on a channel that has tons of static imagery (like ESPN tickers), plasma should be fine. Plasma technology has gotten a lot better, and in my opinion, offers the better pic quality over LED (in the right conditions); plasmas for the basement/man cave, led for bright rooms

I want a LED but im not trying to spend the extra bread

The 2 main tvs im looking at are:

Samsung 55" Class 5458" Diag. LED 1080p 120Hz 3D HDTV UN55EH6030FXZA - Best Buy <----$899

Samsung 51" Class Plasma 1080p 600Hz Smart 3D HDTV PN51E550D1FXZA - Best Buy <----$699

I would prefer the LED over the plasma but is it really worth $200 more?

If I can find a good 50" LED in the $700 range then im hopping on it

that LED is :scusthov: for what you're getting (not even SMART enabled, 2 HDMIs :what:); since is a Samsung, you're paying for the name with respect to LED (think they're the industry leader, and offer exceptional picture quality); do you need 3D?

you said its for the living room, so I wouldnt go with plasma, unless you plan to do most of the watching in low light

for you price point ($700) you may have to get another brand from samsung

My girl just bought a Samsung joint that only has 2 HDMI ports and its not a problem since the receiver we running everything through has 4. Really I can't recommend even buying an LED or any slim frame tv now without some sort of speaker system as well. Rear facing speakers are terrible for sound quality. Even a cheap ass sound bar would be a lot better than depending on those tv speakers.

If you run across any deals for a 50" or bigger post them here breh
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TC-L50EM5-50-Inch-60Hz-LED-lit/dp/B009A17HII]Amazon.com: Panasonic TC-L50EM5 50-Inch 60Hz LED-lit TV: Electronics[/ame]

This is what I'm looking at, but I don't really know how it fares against the competition.

Not much for 3D either :manny:

It doesnt have to be a smart tv since i have a htpc in my living room anyway and I connect everything via hdmi to my receiver and only my receiver is connected to my tv so hdmi ports arent important either

3D isnt a must have but it would be nice since none of my other tvs are 3D

My only musts are:
50" or bigger
1080p
120hz

Im trying to find the cheapest one with the best pic quality

It really doesnt have to be a samsung either but im not fukking with those cheap brands(Westinghouse :scusthov:)

Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sharp AQUOS are all brands I trust and would cop...any other brand I would have to read reviews and check it out in person

true; depends on the individual; i have a receiver on my plasma (has 3 hdmi) so i can connect digital cable, ps3, xbox, media player and cpu

based on what op stated, not how many devices he wants to connect to tv, or if he's interested in upgrading the sound

if you go with LED, based on $700 you could probably get Toshiba, and maybe LG/Panasonic - dont think you'll find Samsung, Sharp for that price at any of the big box stores

its crazy the price difference between canada & us; the 899 samsung from bestbuy you posted, is $1200 in Canada :damn:

I'm confused... I thought it was well documented that for movie/TV watching Plasma has the best picture quality.

I have a 55in Panny Plasma and the pic quality is excellent. I wouldn't shy away from one for right price if you're just using to watch stuff on.
