Long story short, i'm about to go to pharmacy school in the fall, and been just chilling since the new year. I figured I could use this time to learn a new skill and possibly make some money of of it. I'm good at drawing and doing creative things, but I wanted to take it to the next level. Im learning to use GIMP right now but thats it. What books, tutorials, software would you all recommend to get me started in the arena of graphic designing? Pos rep included

start with youtube for tutorials.

Photoshop is limitless once you learn a few basics and it's definitely worth the money if you plan to use it to make more money.

Honestly I dont know. Thats part of the research I want to do and posters could help me out on. Id like to be able to do some photo manipulation but also take ideas from my head and create them using software.

Otherwise, as @Matt504 said, youtube tuts is the way to go.
If you really on that designing shyt, just learn Photoshop already and let Gimp for the simple stuff. It's not that you won't go far with it, it's just that Adobe has the monopoly so you better off riding the Adobe wave than struggling on your tiny boat

Is it for real "professional" use ? Otherwise, well you know
Illustrator is vector-based, Photoshop is pixel(raster ?)-based (as it was a photo editing software in the beginning). You can work in vectors in Photoshop but it's not as efficient as it is in Illustrator. If you're trying to do logos for example, Illustrator may be best suited for this.

That's what I did to upgrade to CS6 on my MacBook

In addition to YouTube and Lynda, google specific stuff like "photoshop tutorials" and peeps some of the links to sites and follow the work.


There's one something like abeeezdo or something that is very good.


No offense but being Frank with you.... Drop that GIMP shyt and get CS5/6 by any means neccessary
