I've rarely seen a slab of concrete in a yard look good, i picture something like this

But from the pics you posted above do you mean pavers? Is so those are fine.

My bad, didn’t necessarily mean concrete. Meant paved. I prolly should change thread title.

I think you should hire landscaper. They can get you together something low maintenance too

Its all about the curb appeal

Focus on the tree. Put a bunch of woodchips down, like 2 inches thick and just make it even and together and stuff in the spring will come up. If you want to grow grad you've got to get the soil a lil bit loose.

Do you know what type of tree it is and what amount of sunlight, and what type of sunlight you get? 3 hours of am sunlight, 2 hours of on sunlight etc?

No, I will find out tree type.

What you mean hours of sunlight? sun rises at like 6:10...sun setsaround 6:45 now.

Now that I have seen this I feel it's inevitable for my yard. Lots of big shade trees. Makes it almost impossible to get the grass right

If you take a good picture of the leaf, and the bark, and the height/shape, I should be able to identify it.

I'm saying how much exposure to the sun does your front lawn get. Is it morning sun or evening sun. These are kinda like two different types of sunlight.

Up north you'll be straight with most fescue but if you are getting harsh afternoon sunlight then you might want to just put out or supplement with a bunch of clover, unless you want to spend water bill money on irrigating it.

You could also do more in terms of setting up like an "ornamental" lawn with a large stand of like liriope or having blue fescue or other meadows type grasses like a miscanthus or something.

It's hard to determine what will go without a view of your yard, and what your idea of what it should look like should be.

Do you want it green, or do you want to increase your curb appeal?

Yes, my former supervisor copped my fescue back in May. I tried pouring it as she instructed, but I really didn't know what I was doing. So I stopped halfway through. Plus I didn't wanna interfere with what the landscaper was doing.

My yard isn't too big tbh. Not sure of the exact size but my lot size is only 2,700 sq. I'm in Staten Island (Not my first choice at all, wanted Brooklyn, but I can't afford 1.2 - 1.6 million dollar mortgage, also wanted Long Island but property taxes would have buried me).

What is "ornamental" law? synthetic?

It'll be dark by the time I get home today and tomorrow. So I'll take some photos on Saturday show you.

Thanks btw, +rep.

2700 lot size, put some pavers down. Look up some YouTube videos. Now if your yard was like 5k plus I’d tell you hire somebody to aerate and overseed. Hell you could probably get away with some fake grass with that size of a yard.
