When I mean solitude I mean no tv, books,people,cell phone etc.
I find the more I meditate the more gratification I get from just sitting in complete stillness and enjoying being. There are also some tremendous insights I've gotten from sitting in silence. As most of you know if you sit long enough eventually different underlying emotions and realizations will arise. One of the insights I've gotten is the realization of my own impending death and how short/sweet life is. We are only here for a short while and conditioned upon birth with all of this information about ourselves and the 'outside' world. All of it is pretty much a complete fabrication.
I don't want to go on a tangent about all of my insights because it doesn't really matter. However I invite you guys to try it. Sit down for 10 minutes to an hour in complete stillness just 'being' and see what arises. Perhaps you'll figure out a solution to a problem thats been bothering you. Or you will remember something you told yourself you were going to do earlier in the week. Or if you're lucky perhaps you'll have an insight on life and the nature of reality.
