I'm almost 50.... I remember when Venus and Serena first hit the scene

️ The black community had a field day with their "African" looks

️ They talked about their complexions and they talked about their hair texture... these braids and beads

️ Of course this was lonnnnng before social media but I remember telling my mother "Those girls will grow up and have children by non black men just so they don't get teased like they did"

A lot of ppl aren’t being honest. Black folks weren’t kind about their looks. Serena’s curves were the focal point

I don't remember many Black men disparaging their looks. I do remember a lot of White people calling them ugly and mannish. They never seemed to have problems finding Black celebrities to date either.
