Steve Biko was South African. The dynamics are not too different. He was just called a kaffir instead of a n*gger so of course his world view was shaped by being black as opposed to the White Afrikaners. I suppose it might be the same for you guys with the Ian Smith minority government.
Africans have always identified by tribe and continue to do so. It's the number one ID of a person. Why do you think the politics is a zero sum game?

Um, yes obviously. But that does not invalidate the fact that in the present Africans refer to themselves as "black". Culture changes, and that includes identity. Even before whites, African cultures were never ever static.
"Black" as an identity is not any less valid than "Zimbabwean" or "Somali" as a nationality. The very concept of a nation state did not exist before white people in many cultures, yet we use these categorizations completely of our own volition regardless of whether cacs are in our business or not anyway.
Face it breh, we're (sub-Saharan Africans) black.
