Anonymity and being able to freely express your ideas without fear of repercussion is one of the most beautiful things about the internet. Of course trolls and other people abuse this, but the amount of ideas and knowledge that people can share with one another is definitely increased by anonymity

I think ppl are less likely to express extreme and irrational ideas when they can't hide behind the cloak of anonymity. You might actually be able to get a decent conversation out of a tlr thread if you made ppl show their faces. Most of the things ppl say anonymously doesn't reflect how they truly live because they don't have to take ownership of their statements since no one knows it's them. By forcing ppl to show their faces u make ppl own up to their statements which makes them think twice about posting garbage
so youd rather get the fake them instead of the real them ??

just so you can have a good conversation ??

man go outside if you want to have a 'real conversation'

I was going on about this with the thread about @JudgeJoeGorilla but those days of free internet are quickly coming to an end. The laws that prevent bullying and cyber bullying, along with others, are actually ways to help lift that anonymous veil from from off the internet. One of the biggest problems the government has had was being able to contain and create restrictions on the internet without looking like they're restricting the rights of it's citizens. Laws created under the guise of helping some people are really being used against all of us.

Could you elaborate on the bolded part? I haven't given much thought to newer youtube policies around bullying. I'm guessing you've watched a good amount on snowden ?

Uh, yeah.

He's a computer defense analyst for the NSA. I don't know how he did it but he was able to show me everything, even porn sites I'd visited. :francis:

Most states and feds codify bullying as identifiable with harassment and/or stalking, etc at this point. Which means, if I felt bullied to a point where I did something access to myself or others, I could pursue or the Government would pursue those who were responsible for my distress. Under the law, IP addresses and any other relevant information needed to prosecute can be gathered by the Government. If you're a website, the size of this one, your intellectual property would be openly available to the eyes of the Government. Backdoors can be created, monitoring would commence to ensure no further incidents and depending on the content, it could be completely shut down.
