I drive a 04 Camry. Never had any problems with it before until last week.

Ordinary day, I start my car and head off. About a quarter of a mile from my house I brake (sort of a rolling brake/stop) at the stop sign and the wheel tightens up and I'm guessing the engine shuts off since i can't move when I push down on the gas (car is still in Drive). All the warning lights go on and I have to put it in park, turn off the car and restart. The car turns on normally; no warning lights stay on. I drive it home and it repeats.

I tried it out on Sunday to the same shyt. So I called a mechanic to come on Monday. He comes, runs a diagnosis with that handheld device. Nothing wrong besides my RPM dial slightly lower than usual. He looks at under the hood and nothing looks wrong. We go for a drive and the shyt doesn't fukk up! I'm like :wtf:

I take it out today and nothing happens. Went around the hood and down 2 busy streets.

I'm like :dwillhuh: wondering how this could be.

I read several things that could be wrong; fuel pump old, dirty pipes, electrical problem. I'm assuming it had/has to be an electrical problem?

I'm still leery about it. Why did it fukk up and now it works like normal? :patrice:

Find the CPS like was stated above and try wiping any grease that may be on it as well as check to see if it's loose at all. Maybe check your grounding strap too.

Had this happen with a Tahoe.

Check your battery cable clamps and make sure that they are secure. When you stopped, it probably jiggled the battery enough to interrupt power. Since you were near idle at the stop, the alternator prob didnt have enough voltage for the main computer, shutting the ignition off.

1. Check battery cables to make sure that they are tight and clean.
2. Check alternator is putting out more than 12v from positive terminal.
3. Check ignition switch itself... You'd be surprised how a bad switch caused intermittent shut offs.


There is no way this is a fukking cam or crank sensor. The car wouldn't even fukking start.

There is no way this is a fukking cam or crank sensor. The car wouldn't even fukking start.

A loose or dirty CPS can give intermittent starts. It costs nothing to clean and check it either way.

Find or borrow a voltmeter from autozone or someone.

There are two leads. Positive (red) and negative (black).

Start the engine.

Place the black lead on a ground...(strut tower bolt or any metal chassis part under the hood)
Then place the red lead on the bolt on the alternator that holds the cable that runs to the positive battery terminal.

Check the voltage. Anything over 12 and up to 14 is ok. It means your alternator is sending a charge to your battery.

Be careful under there. Don't fukk around and get your shyt sliced by the fan or get your shyt ripped off by a belt.

Make sure you keep loose articles away from moving parts under the hood.

Take your time.
