Bruh, everybody n they mama went to go and see Boyz that summer. shyt was all in the media, jheri curl Cube's motion picture debut that was getting good reviews. nikka was on a serious roll, just dropped AMW and Kill At Will the year before. DC dropped the same year as BITH. Man my aunties was JOCKIN Lawerence Fishburne, was still callin that nikka "cornbread". She still got a buncha Jet and Ebony magazines including this one right here.

Menace was that word of mouth hood flick that EVERBODY at school and around the way was talkin about and wanted to see. Bruh, you had nikkaz recording Trigga Gots No Heart on muthafukkin VHS just to catch all the lil parts of the movie. All the hoes talked about up at the school was O-Dog n Caine, O-Dog n Caine, chicks was jockin them nikkaz hard. Menace was harder thana muthafukka to find bruh!!!!! I was up in the Bay and Menace as literally only playing in ONE tiny hole in the wall theater around my way. EVERYBODY was in that bytch. nikkaz posted outside, baby strollers in the aisle, police posted across the street, hoes faded n arguin inside runnin in and out. The most outta control hood flick cinema experience I done ever been a part of.

Bruh just imagine 2 hood flicks with some of your favorite rappers at the time accompanied with soundtracks and videos that EVERYBODY was knockin. Young n old nikkaz on the block to BET, MTV, the Box....

Just the entire movie/soundtrack buzz n atmosphere/experience may never be duplicated again like that when it comes to black folk:sadbron:

Yeah, but he created a whole new generation out of that shyt.

Nah cuzz...

There were a bunch of O-Doggs in the 'hood before this movie came out.

He was a li'll nicca (I think they said he was 14) who was pumped up because he rolled with older dudes who were nutty.
Next time you watch it, just look at how young he was actin' around his OGs...he was just an after effect of the generation
before him - "Pernell" and them niccas.

I'm not understanding the hate for the violence in Menace, nikkas act like LA's murder rate wasn't close to 1000 in the early 90's :why:

O-Dogg's WERE everywhere in America before the movie came out, just check the crime stats in the late 80's..to me it's not even that bad because he wasn't even the main character, he was pretty much the black version of Joe Pesci in mob flicks. Caine (even though he was bad too) at least had a conscience and a human side to him as did other characters (Jada,Shareff and his dad).

That shyt was pretty much BITH from the point of view of Doughboy and his nikkas instead of Tre and Ricky's :manny:

At the time....

Menace, by far.

More memorable scenes, more quotables, rawer...........that movie was just so fitting for the times.........

at one point i knew every line of it.........

U know its crazy when the nikkas who played in that movie still cant live their character names down

"hahaha yo, look at Caine! hahaha...'i dont like that shyt' *chews bannanna* 'i dont like that shyt'.....yo look dumb as shyt...hahahaha"

Chauncey kindda got outta being Chauncey with Pinky.....but nikkas still know "thats fakkit ass Chauncey"

Lorenzo Tate was that nikka after that movie came out tho.........

Had everybody on his dikk........

He could have been major in the black movie game if he played his hand right.....then yo went and fukked up that crazy momentum with that inkwell role..........smh

MC Eight was that nikka too.........

straight up menace might have been the best fitting song created for a movie ever

and his album sold heavy thanks to that movie

Ive outgrown most of the foolishness of that movie tho..... Shareefs character resonates more with me now........

Now, i consider boyz n the hood the better movie

but when it came out.......Boyz n the hood was cool ..............and menace came thru and crushed the buildings on it

the 2 goat movies in the history of film.:king:

BITH was a slightly better overall movie.
but menace was a slightly better hood movie & a better so-called "hip-hop flick" as well. so naturally it edges BITH out as the peoples champ.

I prefer to watch menace myself, if I had to choose.

Oh alright, I just assumed he was like 17 and caine was 18

that's what I thought.

dudes saying o-dogg was 14 tho? I don't know about all that.

For real for me the over the top ignorance that was in Menace makes it a movie I don't even want to watch over again like that. It was just 95 minutes of nikkas acting up, and at the end of it all there's not one thing to feel good about :damn:

I don't know about you, but I felt a helluva lot better about Stacey making it to Kansas, while ricky didn't get to go to USC.

I swear the cop in BITH doesn't get enough credit though. We always talk about Caine, O-Dogg, Doughboy, Monsta, but that cop was one wicked dude. "Oh you think you tough", right out of horror story.
