Ask for something. People always feel empowered/inclined to respond if you ask them for something.
Not a favor, but moreso advice
Say something like "hey do you still live in [insert city]? I was showing my boy around town and I want to know what spots are good to check out"
It sets you up for a convo, and it sets you up for a follow up convo the next day. "Hey thanks for the tip, it was great" etc etc
I've done this exact same thing 3x and it worked.
