Depends on if it's redacted by the author or not. I usually read from cover to cover because I'm a completionist, but sometimes, when it's a preface redacted by somebody with no direct link with the author who's just spoiling and/or adds nothing but his perspective on the book, I'll skip it.
Depends. Philosophy books I tend to considering some might be a lot to digest, and some background information and context is appreciated. Fiction books, maybe if I’m interested in the author and the themes in the book.
If you are talking about the back cover, I usually skip it because it gives too much away like the trailer in a movie. The only time I'll read it is if I'm on the fence about a book. Otherwise, I like going in blind.
If you are talking about the preface before chapter #1, then hell yeah. The current book I'm reading, someone got murdered before chapter #1 startted. Imagine missing that kinda detail to save 10 minutes in a book that takes 7 hours to read
