Who can he throw to? On top of that he had the league's worst line. Dude had his limitations but you don't just fall off like that. 9ers fell off considerably. There were many factors including Kaeps regression.

Boldin had 2 1000 yard seasons and Crabs had one. Those were his #1 receivers
2014 they had two pro bowlers on the Oline
2015 they had one

their line was NOT the worst in the league especially in a league that contained the Dolphins Oline and the Jaguars lol

2015 was definitely a down year for the whole team. ANd they lost some weapons and key elements on both sides of the ball. but dudes were saying this guy was ELITE, an elite player doesn't drop to bottom third losing a few players.

the league figured him out for the most part. All they had to do was contain him. and he was more or less a one trick pony and was figured out, He just can throw accurate enough to stand in the pocket and hit receivers consistently THAT is and has always been his problem.

Alex Smith had that team at 6-2 before he went down with an injury

this revisionist history is too much smh
Those teams were stacked but he had a pretty remarkable record as a starter in the playoffs. He had great games against the Packers twice ( once on the road), Panthers on the road, Falcons on the road and also had a great Super Bowl performance. If they complete that comeback his second half would be up there in the history books, numbers wise.

Call it what you want. Harbaugh didn't feel like Smith would get them there. I respect his opinion and football mind more than yours :yeshrug:
I'm not saying what Harbough did wasn't the right thing, it clearly worked out for him. I'm just saying that they had a completely capable QB that was successful in that system under Harbough(17-5 I believe) on the bench that could have steeped in and played.

the team was built around Frank Gore and the defense, and solid QB play, and they got that from both QB's

Playoff games are won by running and defense. Kap did a good job running those offenses and the whole team played great.

but he hasn't improved since he's been figured out. Obviously the team felt some type of way giving him that contract.

I swear these people never watched our OL. No exaggeration, it was the worst I've ever seen in my life.

Erik Pears, Marcus Martin and Jordan Devey were 3 of our starters and had no business even being in the league, much less starting. None of them will most likely ever start another game in the NFL. This was basically the norm:

And it wasn't just Kap, Hyde got fukked as well:

But on the rare occasion Kap had a clean pocket, he did stuff like this:

TBH! A lot of those plays were pretty standard in the NFL if you watch enough of it.
The first video shows a big pocket that he had time to step up in.
But he didn't throw the ball.

You want to see bad oline play, watch Dallas Thomas get blown up ten times a game

This is just a a quick ranking of offensive lines last year
Ranking all 32 NFL offensive lines this season

Yes the 49ers were bad, but they weren't the worst.

ok and?

i love how nikkas still trying to stick to 2005 alex smith

alex smith damn near went undefeated with the chiefs... he's still their starting qb... he's still putting up multiple winning seasons with them... he's still putting up great numbers with them

last i checked, alex smith is still a starting qb in this nfl and has never not been one since leaving SF... so saying Kaep is equal to alex smith is actually a compliment and goes right along with the fact that he should be a starting qb in this league.... just like alex smith

I don't think its revisionist history. :manny: The offense was up and down with Alex but with Kap the zone read was a game changer for the 49ers that season

Niners got smoked by the Giants that year. Alex threw 3 picks....there was legit concern that Alex couldn't beat them or the Packers. Which was one of the main reasons why KKKHarbaugh moved to Kaepernick. Funny thing is I dont think the Giants even made the playoffs that year.

They aren't going to cut him. There was absolutely no talk about releasing him prior to this, there'd be backlash for cutting him for his stance, which didn't break any NFL policies. Also because Blaine Gabbert is the starter, they can't cut him and at some point he'll see the field
