Dirty secret is as a professional with a college degree or degrees there are not enough professional jobs to go around.

America out sources thousands of jobs that require a degree to countries all around the world and those jobs will never be replaced.

Second of all America has encouraged folks to abandon trades and also the military (with both often times having pensions) as professions.

Like I have said in here before I know truck drivers, HVAC kats and aerospace mechanics that owe a quarter of the money that folks with 4 year degrees yet these kats make 100k a year.

Even dudes who go to these tech schools that have 2 year associates in avionics come out making 15 to 20 an hour plus OT working for a defense contractor. All the while owing nothing more than maybe 20k.
Former military (got a degree while serving) and current HVAC technician.

America is a very strange and puzzling country from middle-out.

Laughs at its own citizens who are college educated and want to work and produce, and excitedly saddles them with crushing debt. Laugh at Mexican immigrants, who come here and obediently work hard in thankless occupations that no citizen wants keeping prices of goods from over inflating. Laughs at those who work and hover around minimum wage, and live on the margins, and therefore can't afford the cost of living in their own city. Laugh at its own citizens on welfare and with children who are presumably the future...and we just placed a Twitter troll with a treasure trove of personality disorders, a man ignorant to the most basic elements of legislative policy and exhales inflammatory rhetoric as often as he inhales oxygen, as a potential leader of the free world.

The advanced world around us looks at us like a freakshow, replete with funhouse mirrors.

You just move here breh? America has always been fukked up. The internet has just made it easier for the idiots to voice their opinion, as well as the BS to become more obvious.

I blame the department of education for doing such a shyt job with education in this country. That is the ultimate reason why the country is doomed.

I agree but schools knowing students are guaranteed to get loans, allows them to keep raising the prices

The government needs to step in and disallow that for schools have to compete with each other for students with lower tuition rates

Sad part is higher education is a business. They could give a fukk about the students.....you see that in how colleges let credit card companies come to campus and prey on students.

It depends on what field, and the amount of debt you take up. A NYU finance degree maybe worth 90-100k of debt..... Maybe.

Nah son....it's not worth it

I don't understand how schools like George Washington or NYU exist. Like who pays $70,000 to go to these schools?

You better off going to the state school. With a high enough gpa you can still get the same jobs.

The way you said son, makes me believe you're a New Yorker. If that's the case you know our state System ( SUNY), is not like other state schools; We don't even have a flagship state school. It's a bunch of public universities spread out, and because of that no SUNY school ( Binghamton, Stony Brook, UB, Albany, Oswego) can really offer the same benefits and connections as a NYU. Hence why the NYU's and other private schools in NYC exist.

Unfortunately In the corporate world in NYC, the more public the less respected. Which is sad because SUNY and CUNY are responsible for 65 percent of all NYers with college degrees.

If you can get into NYU, you can try to get into UVA, Michigan, Berkeley.

If you can get into NYU, you can definitely get into schools like Penn State, Maryland or Delaware.

Graduate from those spots with a good GPA and you can get into similar companies.

Even schools like Howard or Morehouse are cheaper and if you get a good GPA, you'll have companies dying to take you.

I can't in good faith recommend schools like NYU or George Washington to anyone. They're charging Ivy league prices without the prestige of being an Ivy league school.

True, but having Baruch on my resume has opened some doors for me in the marketing analytics industry. Regardless, really all you need is that first job and your alma mater becomes more and more irrelevant.

The educational system at all levels is doing its job, believe it or not. The reason why the country is doomed is because the people who contribute to economic downturns, like the one in 2008, can be bailed out by the working class in a supposed capitalistic society. Look for yourself; the key contributors to the economic downturn made it out better off than they were before it. Things like that are why the country is doomed.

:heh: Its a surprise me when people bag on students that want to go into medical school.
"Theyre dumb, theyre going to come out with six figures worth of debt!"
But they get into a job that pays six figures, and then a few years down the road, into the double/triple six figures.
Clowning an anesthesiologist that makes 240k or a Surgeon that makes 330k a year because they had to stomach 180k in debt for a hot minute. :smh:
The thing is they major in health, not business or finances. The majority of them probably make dumb ass financial decisions on the daily that will keep them in debt forever.
