i agree. while its still a solid 8/10 type album it isn't the classic people would have you believe.

Two Words is FIRE though. And so are many others...but I'd probably skip 5 tracks if i played it today

i re-listened to this recently and i still like it, but i think only for nostalgia purpose...maybe i just played it out as a youngster...after re-listening to his discography, it's my least favorite, but it's still a classic hip hop record...

I actually like The College Dropout, good 4 mic album, the rest of his catalogue has aged really poorly though. College Dropout is the only 1 that is consistently dope to me. Even it has at least 1 song I don't really like at least, but overall it's good.
Late Registration is an upgrade in every way, how do you like The College Dropout and dislike Late Registration. :dahell:

As for this thread while it hasn't aged the best it's still a great album. Probably the most acclaimed and influential debut album since Illmatic? As far as soul sample heavy albums go The Blueprint and Supreme Clientele are older but have aged better. Some of the skits are pretty annoying to me now, and there's some tracks I almost always skip. Most notably School Spirit and The New Workout Plan.

Slow Jamz, All Falls Down, Through The Wire, Jesus Walks, Family Business, Get Em High are all classics.:wow:

Last Call is my favorite outro track :banderas:

"I'm the Gap like the Banana Republic or Old Navy and ohhh
I'll come out sweeter than old Sadie"

The G.O.A.T. punchline

"Mayonnaise-colored Benz, I push miracle whips" :banderas:

This is overselling it. More influential than any of Biggie's albums? There's lots of albums between Illmatic and CD that were higher acclaimed and have aged better.

Last Call is my favorite outro track :banderas:

"I'm the Gap like the Banana Republic or Old Navy and ohhh
I'll come out sweeter than old Sadie"

It's alright. I'd put others ahead of it. Suicidal Thoughts and Undying Love are a couple easy of ones for me just off top.

The G.O.A.T. punchline

"Mayonnaise-colored Benz, I push miracle whips" :banderas:

Flames, and the line that Kanye to be taken seriously as an MC. He deserves credit for making the transition from that producer who wanted to rap but no one was trying to hear to someone mentioned with the greats. :blessed:

Because I don't agree it's an upgrade in every way. And I don't dislike Late Registration, I just don't think it's as good as The College Dropout, still has some classic songs. But I never liked Golddigger, don't like Crack Music, Drive Slow, the Diamonds shyt, Gone and Late sound pretty dated and hard to listen to for me now. And I don't like Bring Me Down as much as I did initially. Oh and I don't like Addiction anymore either. Has to stand the test of time. Forgot Celebration too, not keen on that either.

Sonically, yes, it is stuck in that '01-'04 era of sped up soul samples. It's still a classic album though.

Reasonable Doubt and Ready To Die both came after Illmatic and before College Dropout. CD is not better than those albums.
I know that I'm talking influence, The College Dropout is more influential than Reasonable Doubt pretty easily, even though Jay's album is a better record.
